Several friends and I stayed here 2 days for a local event. Hotel Shattuck Plaza is a half block away from the BART station, and within easy walking distance to the Addison Arts District (e.g., Berkeley Repertory, Freight & Salvage), movie theaters, museums, restaurants, and UC Berkeley.
Rooms in this updated vintage property are on the small side, but extremely clean, comfortably furnished with modern updates to accommodate 21st century electronics, and nicely appointed. In room Keurig coffee kit was handy. Bed was very comfortable. My room facing Allston Way was relatively quiet and afforded a view of the bay (rooms facing Shattuck probably get more noise). Room card needed to power up electricity-saving system. Took a little while to figure out the hi-tech temperature control system. Large closet with up-to-date room safe, included a thoughtful emergency flashlight mounted inside the closet for emergencies (like when the power went out throughout downtown during our stay). Note: there are no refrigerators in these rooms.
Bath rooms were modern, chic, with extremely nice soaps. Love the lemongrass & ginger shampoo.
Some of the front desk staff seem inexperienced, e.g., not familiar with transportation to the airport. Overall, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Easy to store luggage either prior to check-in time, or after check-out time. Easy to use lobby PCs to print out boarding passes (the printer is behind the front desk, the staff will cheerfully fetch your print-outs for you).
Pets are welcome here. A plus for folks who travel with pets. A minus for folks who don't appreciate the lonely, bored, barking dog down the hall.
The bar/restaurant is quite good. I had a drink and bar snack while waiting for my shuttle, food was well-prepared, arrived hot and elegantly presented.
Enjoyed my stay, satisfied my need for a little oasis of luxury.
