While attending a conference at UC Berkeley, I stayed at the Bancroft for one night. I found my room to be nicely furnished and quaint. The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was somewhat small but comfortable.

Room Tip: The hotel is just across from the university and everything is within walking distance.

Lovely ... an urban retreat. I travel a lot, and the Bancroft Hotel had a unique "wow" factor - I think from the mix of these aspects together:

Style: The building is historic - classic California Arts and Crafts, with lots of wood trim, woodpaned windows that open, built-in bookshelves in the public rooms, etc.

Location: Unbeatable - sort of too good to be true. UCB is across the street, and the Berkeley Art Museum and Cafe Strada are both literally next door. It's a few blocks uphill from Telegraph (and hence probably 100+ eateries), but doesn't have the aggressive feeling of Telegraph itself.

Getting around: They offer on-site parking for a nominal fee if you request it with the reservation. Downtown BART is probably 15 minutes away on foot - and the immediate area is very walkable.

Staff: Great - friendly, smart, helpful.

Room: A little small, but beautiful, and seemed like it had been recently renovated - big windows that open, gorgeous hardwood floors, nice bed with clean linens, view of the Bay, desk, armchair, good wifi, older bathroom but functional and spotless. I didn't have any issues with noise or maintenance.

Amenities: Of course there is no on-site fitness center, but UCB has a *huge* gym and pool further down on Bancroft that's open to anyone for I think $10 for a day pass. The continental breakfast was okay but not great (pastries, oatmeal, cereal, fruit), but it's free, so no complaints.

This is where I'll want to stay whenever I'm in Berkeley.

The hotel is across the street from the campus and very close to Memorial Stadium. My room was nice, small, but functional. I had a conference in the Faculty Club and it was a very short walk. The place also has a rooftop areas which is available to guests. I took advantage of a warm, clear night and could see DT San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge's lights. There is also a large common room on the second floor that very cozy and great if you have any work to do while staying in the hotel. There was no elevator, so if you have trouble with stairs, look somewhere else.

very conveniently located, walking distance to UC berkeley and telegraph avenue. bus stop across the street, if you need to go farther. organic cotton linens made in italy (not in exploited labor china), organic EO toiletries, complimentary continental breakfast. the staff made soy milk available to me upon request. front desk employees are exceptional. i would like to recognize mickey, mike, and brenna. i requested a room not facing noisy bancroft way and was accommodated. one small point: an elevator is in order.

Room Tip: request a room in the back, away from bancroft way

A very nice boutique hotel. I believe it was originally built as a women's college in 1928, so manage expectations. The rooms were very clean and quite small. Located next to the Cal Art Museum very close to the South Gate to campus, it is also a bit noisy. Overall, would consider staying there again, but maybe not on weekends, when the students can get a bit loud.
