“So disapointed but this potentially amazing place”
Reviewed 1 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We stayed at Sequoia Resort for 3 nights to explore Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. What we thought would be one of our favourite accommodations of our trip turned out to be very disappointing in many respects. I really want to give this place a higher rating but I just can't.

I will start with the positives. This resort is in an incredible setting in the mountains and sitting on the deck in the morning, with a cup of coffee and enjoying the sounds of nature is very hard to beat. The house we stayed in (number 2) is a good size and has a nice view of the lake. It is an easy drive to the entrance of Kings Canyon (the road is pretty windy) but the south entrance of Sequoia is a bit of a drive (although we were happy to drive through the scenery for an hour or so).

Those are the positives and this place has great potential. However there were a number of negatives I must mention.

The minor ones were - we saw no sign of any staff whatsoever. We went to the office after we arrived but nobody was there, then we popped our heads in a couple of other times to say hello but there was still no sign of anyone. This wasn't a major issue as we didn't require any assistance but we thought it was a little odd! Also, surfaces such as the top of the book shelf and the blinds looked like they had never seen a duster, they were pretty filthy. Again, we could live with this as they didn't really impact our day-to-day activity.

What was more of a concern was the cleanliness of other areas. There was crockery on the shelves that looked unwashed from the previous guest - for example there was a mug that was brown with coffee stains on the shelf - these were not just stains through age as it came up clean when we rewashed everything. Also, the cutlery tray and the plastic shelf cover for the crockery looked very grubby. Furthermore, the floor was really dusty and there were a lot of human hairs on both the livingroom/bedroom floor and bathroom floor. We don't expect to arrive somewhere and have to wash all the dishes and sweep the floor! This made us question the cleanliness of other things in the house.

The cooling system in the room is incredibly loud. There are two vents in the floor and it sounds like an aircraft taking off. One night was over 80 degrees but it is impossible to sleep with such noise. If you do try you will find one of the air vents is directly below the window covering blinds so it blows the slats all over the place making yet more noise.

There was also a smell in the house that we could not find the source off. We thought it might be the sink, a dirty bin, stagnant water in the bathroom - something like that - but whatever it was it wouldn't go away!

This place has so much potential to be amazing but it felt to us that the staff had, either, lost the enthusiasm to give their guests an outstanding experience or were just to busy to focus on the important things to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. This may be a little unfair as we didn't meet any staff but I feel certain efforts need to be addressed.

Such a shame as it has so much going for it!

Management Response
1 Jul 2016
Hello and I'm so sorry to hear of your experience. Sequoia Resort has just ONE manager (no "staff")and this is a busy season - I'm sorry I missed chatting with you! It's hard to get everything done. I will most certainly address the cleaning issues, you can be sure of that. I appreciate your feedback.
