I first stayed at Pushkar Fort in November, 2010, in an elegant a/c haveli room when I led a group of 30 international photographers to Pushkar/Jaipur. The resort was very busy that time. I visited the resort again in end-January, 2012, on my way to Khichan village (where I stayed at Lal Bhawan in Phalodi, see my separate review in this context).

We reached Pushkar Fort somewhat late, around 11.00 PM, after driving straight from Delhi. There were only a few guests around, and we were promptly whoen our very elegant room ... they charged Rs.3800/- for a double room inclusive of breakfast. We were really so tired that we didn't mind the tariff at all.

What was surprising that even in the relative bon-fair time, the resort was really well maintained. Room service was prompt and the restaurant still served good, fresh stuff. This time we stayed an a somewhat ethnic hut with lovely interior. The interior was really good enough to be photographed.

We got up around 07.00 AM next day, shot a few pictures of the resort, and had a somewhat hasty breakfast ... it was quite filling and quite palatable too. All in all a nice 2nd visit !

Room Tip: There is a variety of accommodation, inclusive of elegant, tented accommodation. Go for ethnic huts...

This is a nice place that we really can recommend. Located outside of the city, on the edge of the desert, it is very peaceful and quiet. The staff was very service minded and friendly. The rooms were good, but it can get a bit chilly at night. Nothing a blanket, a heater and good company can't help.

We stayed one night in two tents. As it was winter, the tents were very cold, but we were able to use the bedding from the spare bed to keep warm, and slept well. The bathrooms were huge and everything seemed to work. The decor of the tents was sort of 'simulated rustic ethnic', if such a thing exists. It's a pleasant change from all the hotels that try to look as modern and Western as possible. This one was trying to look like it was a tent in Rajasthan, which indeed it was.

The place has lots of space in it, and there seemed to be several groups here who could meet without disturbing everyone else. One group had some sort of campfire in the middle of the lawn, and another sat on the verandah smoking from hookahs. This hotel would probably be great for groups in summer time, as they could utilise all the outside space for meeting, drinking, chatting, whatever. The hammock near the pool is very comfortable.

The food was OK, but nothing special. Since this place is in the middle of nowhere, there were no other options for food. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide range of dishes to choose from. One of us ordered from the menu and had her meal brought to the tent - this was convenient and there was no fuss. However, she found the biryani too spicy for her, despite specifically requesting that it not be made spicy. 'Spicy' is a variable description in India, of course.

In summary, clean and pleasant, but a bit too cold in winter, and a long way from anywhere.

Room Tip: Avoid the tents in winter.

Spent 1 night here on my way from Udaipur to Jaipur. I think I had a "deluxe" room, solid walls but canvass/tent like roof. As it was winter, I froze. They did bring a blow heater but it wasn't too effective. The bed was rock hard but it was warm. Friendly staff and food in the restaurant was nice but not too exciting.

Funnily enough, unlike other hotels in India in winter, at this one there was good hot water in the shower in the morning but I couldn't get cold water running!!

Only stayed for 1 night as stopover and the hotel seemed to be in the middle of nowhere but as my impression of Pushkar was very negative I wasn't disappointed about being out and away from the town.
