After a bad experience at Shanthi Guesthouse, just down the street, my husband and I found comfort at The Mowgli Guest House. The staff was warm and accommodating, the views were FANTASTIC, the food was good.

Room Tip: We had a room with a balcony and sunset was not to be missed!

A great place to relax, out of the mainstream of Hampi. The hut was basic, but comfortable with a mosquito net. Bathroom a little dingy, but OK.

We had to wait a long time to check in, which didn't surprise us, as we arrived very early (common in Hampi, as many visitors arrive by early-morning overnight trains and buses). However, it would have been a far better experience had we been told "Expect to get your room at 11" - then we would have enjoyed the cool hours of the morning visiting Hampi instead of waiting for our "15 more minutes" checkin.

The restaurant serves horrible interpretations of Western food but IT HAS BEER. Yes! This side of the river is a different village from Hampi Bazaar, and beer is allowed. Which we really enjoyed because it was very hot!

Is this place seriously one of the top rated in Hampi? First of all, our room was supposed to be facing the river... (this is what i paid for) but they had given our room to some other tourists and we got stuck facing a mosquito covered rice patch on the edge of the property. When we opened the room we were mobbed by mosquitos. BTW, our mosquito net was old and yellow. The bathroom was pretty gross and had some kind of weird rectangular hole in the middle of the floor plus our shower flooded when we turned it on I was pretty grossed out, the only reason why this place received two stars from me is because the guy in the restaurant was so nice and we loved him. We also liked the food as well.
