Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Ride 4 a woman is a women's NGO that has 300 women members and empowers women by teaching them skills that they can use to earn a living. You can come and spend a day with the women and learn how to weave a simple basket, learn how to cook a traditional meal, or learn how to dig using a hoe. You can spend a whole day or just afew hours with the women. Its such a great experience and one we recommend highly while in bwindi.

A workshop for (mostly) women to help them provide for their families. Handmade cloth items ad well as grass baskets. Some things are a bit pricey, but the cause is worth it to me. Lovely workers and staff.

We stayed at Ride 4 a Woman for three days as part of our Gorilla Tracking safari. Ride 4 a Woman was the best experience of our trip Apart from being a comfortable place to stay with wonderful food and hospitality, we felt welcomed and part of the community during our brief stay. I spent time learning how to make baskets - the women who work there were incredibly kind and generous with their time. It was also great to know that our stay was directly helping people. Highly recommended.

Went her on the cultural tour. It is a center to support battered women where it teaches them a trade. When we got there is started pouring rain, so we stayed longer. You can watch them make the crafts. They are not pushy to sell items, but they are available to buy. The idea is to empower local women with skills to be independent.

The Ride 4 A Woman Co-operative is a project that is changing the lives of women and children in Buhoma Village near the entrance to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. We stayed on site at their hostel and it was akin to luxury accommodation. All meals were included in the price - prepared by a qualified chef and staff. Beautiful food, location and service. The bonus was working with Evelyne Habasa and the women with the sewing and basket weaving projects - and to see how else we could help them to move the project forward. We visited schools, the fantastic hospital, talked to other visitors coming in to see the project and tried to dance with the women - without making them laugh too much (didn't succeed!) Thank you again for a wonderful stay and many thanks to the staff, the women and the many helpers involved.

We passed through Bwindi to do a project with the local Batwa Hospital there and I never expected to find Evelyne's Ride 4 a Woman compound and Mbwesa Lodge and cultural center. She is a treasure to the community creating a way for local women to share their culture with travelers in the area. Traditional clothing, bespoke fashion, basket weaving, bike riding, dance, a full service restaurant. It was an excellent example of what you can do when you bring your whole community together. Please stay there if you are traveling through Bwindi and want to be a part of where the locals are and support the community. I took home several items for gifts and when people at home say very "afro-centric" I can say that right it was made right in the center of Africa by women!! Thank you Evelyne for and Dennis for showing us how it's done!! And thank you for the cauliflower from your garden. It was delicious. I'm sending everyone to visit and stay with you!!
