We passed through Bwindi to do a project with the local Batwa Hospital there and I never expected to find Evelyne's Ride 4 a Woman compound and Mbwesa Lodge and cultural center. She is a treasure to the community creating a way for local women to share their culture with travelers in the area. Traditional clothing, bespoke fashion, basket weaving, bike riding, dance, a full service restaurant. It was an excellent example of what you can do when you bring your whole community together. Please stay there if you are traveling through Bwindi and want to be a part of where the locals are and support the community. I took home several items for gifts and when people at home say very "afro-centric" I can say that right it was made right in the center of Africa by women!! Thank you Evelyne for and Dennis for showing us how it's done!! And thank you for the cauliflower from your garden. It was delicious. I'm sending everyone to visit and stay with you!!

Eve and Dennis Habasa have created a truly special Ugandan experience here in Buhoma. Whether you are here to gorilla trek or you want to gain real insight in to a host of cultural aspects of life in Uganda R4W ticks all the boxes. R4W was created to drive the empowerment of women in the area; any activity you take part in (you can learn to weave baskets, cook local dishes, dance...) or fabulous fabric product you buy supports this effort. A brand new, beautifully furnished dining area gives the place a real heart; it is a chill out zone, place to eat, work (great wifi), have a glass of wine, enjoy good food and the company of really interesting guests staying there. The shop sells a stunning array of fabric products from napkins and table mats, gorgeous girls dresses, laptop, phone and sunglasses cases, all sorts. Rooms are cosy and comfy, home from home and reasonably priced. If you are lucky you may get to see the women that work here either practicing or performing traditional dance, it's a pretty awesome sight. Ask Eve to talk you through the meaning of the dances, it's fascinating. Collectively this all makes for a really vibrant hub and it sits surrounded by the Bwindi impenetrable forest. Stay for at least a couple of nights if you can just to get immersed in the vibe of the place.

I had a short visit to the women project headed by Evelyn.
Getting involved in this project taught me a lot in traditional African culture and change.
Having been to Most of East-Africa countries for Tourism, I found this project as an amazing project.
She is the Queen, she is the voice and she is all the women can have in this village.
The kitchen produces excellent meals, and this became the best meal me and my other participants had for the entire trip.
I will recommend it for any tourist visiting Bwindi.

Ride4Women is one of my favorite places I got to visit in Uganda. Not only does it offer beautiful and comfortable rooms at very reasonable rates. They also have amazing food and staff. The most impressive part of the organization is what they do to support the women living in their community. They created livelihood opportunities and created a safe place for at risk women to come and stay. This was all started by an amazing local women who works hard everyday to continue to improve the lives of many in Bwindi.
