The lady working at the reception was not very friendly or helpful. The visit was not really worth the effort.

To be honest we were looking for the navy museum and came accross this little gem which is right next door to it by default - and are so pleased we did.
The actual building overlooks the naval base and was once the Residency of the governor of the Dutch east India company built in 1777.
It's like walking back in time with detailed history of Simon's town seeping out of every pore of the building.
Both of us had family that had passed through Simon's town from 1899 to the current day and I can honestly say we could see all of their footprints left in this remarkable building and its content.
This place is kept together by volunteers who should be applauded for their obvious dedication and passion.
This is not a modern all singing and dancing techno museum - this is a place you can quietly get totally absorbed in and come away with high emotions when you think of who and what has come about in this fascinating town.
We will come back to south africa to spend some more time in Simon's town and to spend more time in the museum purely because of our visit to the Simon's town museum.
Thank you volunteers for all your hard work and please reaslise how much it is appreciated.

Don't miss the penguins! They are so cute and fun to watch. I will always remember this stop in the way to Cape Point. There is a fee to enter. Be sure to video! You can get penguin souvenirs in the shops.

We visited here as the pick of museums was difficult, but we only had time for one. We loved Simons town and the history of the naval dog, just Nuisance. We also visited his grave. The museum was run by volunteers I think, and they were so lovely and talked us through various items there. We spent a good while looking through the museum and bought quite a few gifts from the shop. Well worth a visit.
