My partner & I stayed for one night at the Serena Mountain Lodge. Lovely hotel with pleasant staff, however one member of staff was quite cold towards us after we didn't tip him after bringing our bags to our room (we had no small change and didn't want to tip 1000KSH for a short walk) We did however tip him once we had left and he returned our bags to the car - he didn't seem grateful!! However all other members of staff were very nice. The hotel has its very own watering hole along with a viewing platform which brings you out just by the watering hole, this was a great experience for us to get up close & personal to the animals, plenty of water buffalo were around the WH whilst we were there! During our one night stay there was only one other couple staying at the hotel too, and for some strange reason the hotel staff decided to situate those guests in the room above ours although there were plenty of other rooms available, beings as this hotel is made primarily out of wood we could hear them chatting, using the lavatory and even heard the gentleman pop off! Funny to think back but not what you really want to hear lol!! The food was amazing and I have zero complaints in regards to that area! When staying in the foothills of Mount Kenya it can get very cold of a nighttime so it was a pleasant surprise to find a hot water bottle heating up the bed (I was in heaven when I found it!)

We stayed here for a night coming back from Amboseli. after the long drive was nice to come to this small place in the forest.. made of wooden logs but having all you need for a relaxing. All rooms face the waterhole which is frequented by the animals in the forest. the best is that you can request to be woken up when a specific animal visits the waterhole. We unfortunately didnt get to see the Forest Hog but irrespective got to see tons of birds and some waterbucks and bushbucks as well as a hyena.

Beautiful location facing a water pond where animals come drinking ftom the forest. You can book a night wake up service to see the preferred animals once they arrive. The lodge' structure remember the Jurassic Park's one. You have to access the park by a 43 USD ticket. The lodge room (including breakfast and dinner) was pretty cheap, 70 USD. Enjoy!

The mountain lodge is a great place to chill out and relax. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The food is good and varied. As mentioned earlier, the walls are quite thin and it is definitely not a place for light sleepers. There really should be a mention when booking that because the lodge is within the national park, there is an extra daily charge for each adult and vehicle . There is a very very rude KWS guard who wouldn't let us in for a long time because we dared to get lost in a foreign country and come in late. So if you must go out, get a local line and a number so you can call the lodge to let you in just in case you're late. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise from people walking. Do not get room under reception lounge because there will be noise all night long.

We went there as a group to get away from busy city life , lovely drive in and more recently the road to the lodge has been tarmaced so didn't struggle with car getting stuck . Rooms are small but have everything you need plus a lovely balcony to view the animals, don't expect a palace it's a lodge. Amazing time here , we didn't leave the lodge , we just viewed the animals and all the beautiful nature from the viewing decks . There's also a viewing bunker closer to the watering hole so you can get reasonably close . No complaints just a perfect way to go and switch off !
