“Our other home town”
Reviewed 13 October 2010

We came thru this little town years ago on a whim. My husband is a musician and heard that this town centers around music. He headed down to the square and was invited into a music circle.
Jammed with them for hours.

When we decided to start looking for a retirement town, we would drive around Arkansas and always ended up back in Mt View.

We bought our house there 5 years ago. Make the 6 hour drive once a month.

The people are friendly, the scenery beautiful. Our own little "Brigadoon" before we have to leave it to head back to the city. 3 years and we will be full time residents.

If you are even a few hours drive away, add a "Via Point" on your GPS and head to Mt View.

“A hidden gem in Arkansas!”

Our recent weekend trip to Mountain View far exceeded our expectations. Surrounded by hills with natural beauty, Mountain View is quaint but lively. There are only two signal lights in town, but there are numerous shops, ice cream parlors, B&Bs, inns, cabins, etc. Every night of the week--and especially on weekends--there is free live music around the courthouse square and in Washington Park. Nearby is the Ozark Folk Center where skills of another era are preserved. Twenty minutes away is Blanchard Caverns. Parade Magazine judged it one of the top five caverns in the nation. There are also music theaters, Mellon's County Store, fishing, and much more. We ran out of time before we ran out of things to do.

My wife and I went to Mountain View on Friday of the Memorial Day weekend. We stayed at the Best Western Fiddlers Inn. It is not new and glitzy, but it is extremely clean and neat. Everything works well and the hospitality is outstanding. Rates are low. It is more than adequate for most needs. They have a continental breakfast and great coffee. A very good, low priced stay.

We had barbecue at the Bar None Bar B-Q 1613 E. Main St. This is a very neat and fairly new building. I had ribs and they were as good as any I have ever had. Very lean and dry. No sauces or rubs on them. Just a very smoky flavor. Side orders were average. Potato salad came from a mass producer. Nothing special. Sweet potato fries were very good. Hand cut and flavored with salt and sugar. You didn't know if you were going to get salt or sugar with each bite. Very good. My wife had the pulled pork and said it was too salty.

Friday night we attended a concert at the Ozark Folk Center. It was excellent. The performers were professional but still authentic. They are dedicted to preserving the style of music. The auditorium is outstanding. No bad seats in the house. Saturday we went to Blanchard Springs in the morning. Did not go to the caverns as we had been there before. We did explore the swimming and recreation areas and especially enjoyed the beautiful walk to the Spring. Well worth the time.

Saturday afternoon we visited the town square and counted twelve different areas where authentic local musicians were jammin'. This is what Mountian View is about, real people preserving their musical and cultural heritage.

One of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations I have ever been on. The people in the town are friendly and helpful. The Folk Center was very interesting and the music on the square was wonderful along with all the shows. Bette Beel

“Sooooo relaxing!!!!”

Our recent weekend in Mountain View was just WONDERFUL!! We had the most delightful cabin - right on THE SQUARE. We only walked two blocks to the square where all the music is. If you love FOLK MUSIC, this place is addictive! Some of our neighbors near our cabin even invited us to stop by for HOMEMADE ICECREAM on their lawn as soon as we got there - - then gave us the recipe.

There was even a T.V. crew filming a special about life in small towns. They interviewed our two grandsons! We can't wait to see that, of course.

The scenic drives, the OZARK FOLK FESTIVAL, the friendly people and , most of all, the music on THE SQUARE all make this the most relaxing getaway ever. And there's so much more to do there. You must meet Aunt Minnie Miles at the White River Hoedown, drive (or walk) across the swinging bridge at Holiday Mountain Resort. . ..and just shop till you drop!

By the way . . Mountain View is a little town of about 2500 population.
