“Friendly hotel, perfect location for hiking the national park.”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

This is a beautiful hotel with the best location if you have come to explore the national park. It is a 5 minute walk from the entrance. The rooms are very comfortable. Soundproofing could be better. We could hear our neighbors clearly. The staff were extremelly accomodating and very friendly. Even before we arrived at the hotel they were helpful with advise on travelling from Seoul. They went out of their way to suggest places to visit and eat. Our only disappointment was the restaraunts. Service was very limited since it was not busy. This was not advertised when booking. The Korean restaraunt was closed and the British restaraunt which served western and Korean dishes was closed by 8pm. Breakfast was finished by 10am and there was no alternative in the hotel. No food was available until lunch at 12pm. Alternatively they had the Beetles themed "pub" which offered some snacks, pasta and pizza but we didn't come to Korea for pizza! Having said that, we would reccomend the blue cheese honey pizza!! Luckily going to Sokcho was a pleasant and cheap trip on the local bus. There were lots of good options for dining in town. We also enjoyed having lunch inside the park. There you could try local dishes in a nice rustic atmosphere. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The staff and location definitely make this hotel special!

Room Tip: After arriving we upgraded to a front room for the view. These rooms are also larger. Worth the ex...

We booked this hotel last minute. Choice was based on the location. They had weekday special so it seemed good value for money. It was also rushed decision..

After three and half hours trip, we took a local bus to the hotel which stopped in fromt of the hotel.. The drive was pleasant, throgh country road. There were clusters of motels and loal restaurants on the way, but i found the remoteness of the hotel very relaxing. We were greeted at the entrance by two red double decker bus, and i suddenly realised why it was called 'kensington stars' hotel. Although i didnt get the 'stars' bit yet.

The reception is decked out in old english style. Could be bit OTT but so well executed you get the sinserity of it.. The reception were mostfriendly. Took their time answering question.

We had a twin room with balcony, with the view of the mountain. The floors were decorated with sports 'stars' memorilbilia. Now i got the 'stars' bit. Othere floors themes were ambassadors, movie stars etc.

I read in the hotel intro book that this was the holiday location for late president park. Brings a different meaning to 'presidential suite' i guess..

I really enjoyed the stay because of the staff.. They were most friedly and genuine.. At the breakfast, i ordered cereal instead of stadnard american breakfast.. The waitress took time to warm the milk slightly so it wasn 't freezing cold. When i asked about pasta dinner at the hotels 'abbeyroad' restaurant the reception recommended the pasta, while shyly adding that 'not sure if it would be international standard, but i think it is nice'. It was as good as any pasta i hadn home..

The location is fantstic. Five minutes to the mountain base, cable car mountain walks. Etc.. The trip to serak is worth it. I would highly recommend it..

Not sleek service but warm... All very genuine.

We stayed in this hotel after reading the reviews from Trip Advisor and it was the most expensive hotel in our whole trip.

Pros: Nice scenery of Seorak San and the hotel is also within working distance to the entrance of the park. Rooms were comfortable with hi-class bidet and cable tv. Service crew were also very friendly.

Cons: Breakfast was okay but nothing fantastic. I personally felt that the decorations were a bit over. Meals are expensive, thus we took bus 7 out to Sokcho town and tried out the local specialties such as buckwheat noodles.

Overall a nice stay for us.

While the England theme may be a bit "over the top", this is a great place to stay in Sokcho. Very close to great hiking and a short drive into the city and to beaches. Room was quiet and comfortable. Staff were helpful and, for Sokcho, skilled in English.
Choice of American or Korean breakfast and both were good quality.

Room Tip: If you're an early riser, the hot water takes a long time to get to the end of the hall, Try a...

Cliché themed hotels are usually a no for me but i actually loved this place. Fabulous staff that speak good English, good comfortable bed, good amenities. Had a room that faces the back but since it was fall, the myriad colors of the leaves gave me a picturesque view of the hill side. Rooms were a tad old but i believe they did refurbish the rooms a little. Will recommend this place if you are coming for Mt Sorak as the main attraction.

ps. There is a Tourist Information booth located just outside the Express Bus Terminal so head over to get your bearings and some recommendations.
