“Go early in the morning and take photo early”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

It is quite far from Bagan. Probably taking 1 and half hour drive to reach there but it worths the time.

It was a hot afternoon. It took roughly half hour to get up to the top. But, you shall find quite comfortable to walk up. not feeling hot walking up. The only thing is that you need take off your shoes and you may not feel comfortable walking some stairs...

The view of the mountain is wonderful. It looks like a temple over the cliff. But, if you visit in the afternoon, you may find difficult to take the photo due to the strong sun light from the west. Better to go early and take photo early.

Also, there is no entrance fee. And, quite some shops for your bargain. I bought some cheap stuff there.

“Mt Popa a bit of a drive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

This is basically an all- day event and you need a driver guide. Along the way you will stop to 'tour' a place where they make palm sugar and a palm alcohol liquid over an old fashion still. At Mt Popa you walk up 777 steps to a very interesting temple perched on the top of the mountain. Monkeys are everywhere along the steps - not to be petted. Numerous monks make this trek - there are many more locals than tourists. It was an interesting day, but if you only have 2 days in Bagan my vote would be to have a guide show you around Bagan temples one day and on second day rent bikes. If 3 days in Bagan, then go to Mt Popa

“Really worthwhile to visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2012

We really enjoyed visiting Mount Popa although the climb up was a little steep and the monkeys were plentiful & a little bold. After the visit we went to the Mount Popa Resort for lunch which was really special. The view from the resort was incredible! Would highly recommed.

“Shoo the monkeys as you walk the stairs...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

Interesting - but nothing all that special unless you learn the history. Beware the monkeys - like parts of India, they are everywhere. And they leave droppings and occasionally urine and blood on the steps - which you must negotiate in bare feet. And there are a lot of them! Great view from the top. Go there if you are in the area - personally I would not make a trip just for this though.

“777 steps...”

Fabulous location, not entirely sure I think the temple at the top was worth the 777 steps and battling the rather agressive monkies.
