“A must see”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

Along with Inle Lake and Shedagon Paya, the temples of Bagan are the must see attraction in Burma. There are over 2000 of them spread across a plain along the banks of the Irrewaddy river, though you don't need to see them all! There are several ways to see the temples: by hot air balloon if you have the money and are there at the right time of year. By bike. By horse and cart. Though we chose the easiest: with a private driver and guide in an airconditioned 4x4. Well worth the 50,000 Kyat. We actually only went to 8 or 9 temples: the biggest and most famous. We were inteding to rent a bike and go back the following day to see a few more of the less obvious ones, but April (the hottest (not to mention cruellest) month in Burma) is not that good a time for cycling. Well worth the trip to Bagan just for the experience.

“Horse and Cart the way to go...”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

Koko our horse and cart guide was fantastic in taking us around the temples of Bagan. In the midst of the hot season, we asked him to take us around to his favourite temples and were blown away by the beauty of the temples. Having someone who could tell us about his life growing up in Burma added to the ethereal atmosphere of Bagan, lunching under a Bhodi tree along with most of the locals with massive posters of Suu Kyi. Local kids joined us in walking through and up over some of the stupas - recommend finding a local to show their Bagan

“Simply breathtaking”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

I have never seen so many temples in my life. We had a horse and cart for the first day going around and then decided to suck it up and went cycling (for hours and hours mind you). But we had the most amazing time. Temples every where you look. Beware of the young men who try to scam you into buying their artwork but just ignore them and they will do away. Do go at sunrise but get there 30 mins before (and push for them to pick you up, some dont want to get up in the morning!), it is mindblowing and so calming seeing the temples rise up in the morning sunlight.

Worth going to Myanmar to see - and if you go now you'll still be able to enjoy them without tour groups
