Great location, close to old bagan, easy to walk or bike or ebike everywhere. Room was decent if not a bit old fashioned with poor lighting and old bathrooms. Only one tiny pillow was given. Suggest you get a river view room which are the newer rooms on the new side of the hotel. Tourism is still fairly new in Myanmar so service was a bit spotty. When we were there there was a festival going at the pagoda that had music and singing going on alllllll night. We asked to change room and they were nice and accommodated us - although they moved us across the hallway which was not exactly fixing our problem!! The restaurant is ok although service was slow, good breakfast selection and they do happy hour by the river which has stunning view of the river, however there are so many boats that it's not exactly tranquil. Overall, an average hotel in a great city

We found that marketing information for the Aye Yar River View Resort greatly over-exaggerates its own glory!

Certainly the establishment is well located, very much in the centre of all the local must-sees yet very close to the river, but the old fixtures and fittings and general ambiance make this far from being the first class hotel that it boasts.

Of course, the country is very much in the infantry stages of the developing tourist industry. My wife and I stayed for two nights as part of a group tour arranged by Travelsphere. We were not in any huge way disappointed with the Aye Yar River View Resort; just felt that we had been built-up by the descriptions they themselves had put out.

The staff were very pleasant, liked to say ‘Yes’ even when they should have been more honest – ie. ‘No, your room is not ready yet!’ The pool area was quite adequate but with a number of coach companies using the hotel – there is precious little accommodation alternatives – there could have been more sunbeds available, or at least a reserve.

Our first floor room, faced into the countryside, with a veranda looking out to a number of historical sights. A king-size bed with a hard mattress (not a problem – best nights’ sleep for a long time!); old fashioned box TV with a poor reception, but then we are aware of the present short-comings; Tea & Coffee facilities. A general oldie-world quirkiness feeling, with double wooden doors through to a fair size bathroom (Laundered robes but pre-used flip-flops – not for us, thank you!)
We found that the Wifi was best forgotten about! My enquiry at reception met a kindly smile and a promise that it would be fixed ‘in an hour’ – another example of where being told the truth (ie. it’s off for the duration) would have sufficed.

Breakfast buffet was pretty good and kept reasonably topped-up, throughout the period. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant, at all, but did enjoy the talented musical group with their broken English.

Would recommend to a friend…. along with our findings.

We love this place. We had a deluxe room with a garden view. Very nice rooms. I didn't hear any noise at all. Location is pretty good. Great pool/spa. Great area to see the sunset. Breakfast is really good. We had dinner on a Friday when they have BBQ buffet with a live band.

This fun restaurant is located near the river, with outdoor dining that is upscale yet typically affordable for the region. Food is served family style and is delicious. Service was warm and attentive. Highly recommended whether for a group or a romantic evening.

The gardens are beautiful and it is very close to all the major pagodas in this beautiful area. The hotel is a little dated but the setting makes up for it. Probably a little over priced but old Bagan has the more up market accommodation with little choice.
With the constant stream of river cruises coming in it has become very noisey from very early morning.
You can hire bicycles or electric scooters to visit the local sites, the place outside the front gates is cheaper.
Handy spot for taking a boat out to enjoy the sunset but the area is now getting quite congested as the road to the river is at the side.

Room tip: Rooms closer to the reception are quieter
