“Ajmer Bungalow - Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

We went to Ajmer in the second week of January. We drove down from Delhi, started at 7 in the morning and were in Ajmer by 230 in the afternoon. We had wanted to stay in Ajmer for a day before heading down South to Jaipur/ Bundi, Once we reached the Ajmer Bungalow, we were welcomed by Naveen and Rajika Capoor, both elegant and thoughtful hosts.

We were at once made to feel at home. We stayed in one of the rooms and in the absence of other guests had the whole main house to ourselves. Naveen was a walking guide on Ajmer and made sure that our trip was complete. Visits to Ajmer Dargarh, Mayo College and even the silver bazaar was arranged for.

The Bungalow itself has been carefully and lovingly maintained by the Capoors and their joy in the place is obvious. Evenings were spent in their company in front of the fireplace with both my children having a free run of the house. Great music from their collection of LPs had classics from the 60s and 70s.

We stayed on till Sunday and didnt budge from there.. Do visit.

kids rate naveen's place as their fondest memory of india.
naveen is a gentleman, well-read, and took an interest in showing the kids his fascinating keepsakes, teaching them to use a singing bowl, etc. he is the old charismatic uncle that every kid should have. the kids loved his dogs, the grounds and the peacocks, and we parents loved the relaxed, quiet, literary feel his place exudes, and naveens superb cooking, huge rooms with high ceilings and privacy.
it was our most expensive homestay, but totally worth it.

Navin and Rajika just get it. They run one of the cleanest, brightest and nicest home stays I have EVER stayed at. As a professional traveller who travels for over 200 days a year thats saying a lot. The place has such a great feel and so much character that it makes you feel instantly at home. I work on TV in Food and can tell you this is an amazing place if you like to eat. The 'KAche ke kebab' were memorable as was the mutton curry.
I'm going back with the family first chance I get.
PS - Rajika if you're readding this I did get my own copy of that book I was reading at your place. 'THUGS' ..its good readding. :-)

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful Bungalow only for one night but it left a lasting impression, the beauty of the place, the warmth of Naveen and Rajika, our hosts who welcomed us as friends to their place and served us with delightful food and wonderful conversation. We went to the Dargagh and came right back, we enjoyed just wandering around the agrden of the property, leafing through the great varied books, lazing on the veranda. It was a delight to make up to the sounds of birds and find our way to the sunlit dining table for a scrumptous breakfast. The rooms are very comfortable and the king size bed with the amazing mattress makes you drift off in a sweet slumber. A great place to recharge your mind, body and soul.

Welcomed with a hug, I was delighted to meet Naveen and Rajika for the first time ever. They made us feel so much at home. My husband was "bowled over" by the property. We enjoyed the home-cooked meals, the late-night chit-chat, the five-star facilities and the 8000-odd books! The rooms are neatly done, well equipped and have clean king sized bathrooms. The linen used is excellent, the pillows are possibly the softest spot on earth! In fact, there were an array of pillows arranged on the king size bed for one to pick what suits you. It's an excellent place to stay for visits to the Dargah and the Mayo Colleges. Packed lunches can be availed for home-ward journeys which was a real blessing for us, as we had to do a 10 hour long run back to Baroda by car. We could not have asked for a more comfortable and entertaining place to stay. We plan to make this a regular habit to unwind and feed our souls and tummies!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
At our Bungalow guests are like family, so every effort is made to make them feel comfortable and at home. Rooms: There are three double guestrooms, comfortably furnished and provided, as homes of that era used to be, with attached dressing area and bathroom. Each one opens out onto the front veranda, leading to the secluded lawn. If needed, additional rooms can be made available. Food: While breakfast is complimentary, other meals can be arranged at an additional cost. As you’ll eat with the family, all you need to do is remember to let the cook know well ahead of time. All meals are home cooked, and every effort will be made to accommodate special needs, diets and tastes. Room Service: Our Bungalow remains first and foremost a family home – no room service is provided as a norm. However, service in the veranda or garden could be arranged depending on convenience and availability of staff. TRANSPORT: Ajmer is a small town, so most places are just a 10 minute drive from the Bungalow. For short forays into town, auto- and cycle-rickshaws are easily available. Taxis can also be arranged on prior request with payments to be made directly to the drivers. At our Bungalow you are guests of the family. We are happy to have you around sharing our days; soaking up the sun in the garden with a cool drink by your side, dipping into the vast, eclectic collection of books this family of avid readers has gathered, or discussing local myth, legend and history with friends and neighbours who drop in. You can try your hand at pottery – there is a wheel in the garden, or learn the art of miniature painting in the style so typical of the region. Instructors can be organized on prior notice, for a fee. If you are fired with an enthusiasm to get a closer look at the chivalry and glory that legends are made of, we organise regular visits to palaces and forts around Ajmer; even those still lived in by descendants of those whose deeds the bards sing in praise of. We can also organise overnight stays on request. Village life has its own charm and if you’re interested we can organise tours to villages nearby where you can interact with ordinary people, watch craftsmen at work, maybe scout out the market for that perfect, unique souvenir. Then there are heritage sites all around the city of Ajmer. Too many to detail here, they make up some excellent heritage trails. We can help you chart your own special interest route that you can cover at your own pace. Trips such as birdwatching, wildlife, religious sites, NGOs, rural development & villages, artisans at work, etc. can be arranged for special interest groups. You just need to let us know in advance. ... more   less
