Mombo Camp was the last leg of our 8 day safari. It was the best safari camp of the lot. By far. My mouth gaped open upon entering our room. There was a well stocked bar in the sitting area, gorgeous yet simply adorned comfortable bed, a vanity area, a double sink bathroom, toilet with a view, and a gigantic and inviting bathtub. There was a hair dryer! They also lend out hats, and a pair of binoculars to use on the drives. Very thoughtful. Outside the decks there is a hot tub, a sitting area, a daybed, and an outdoor shower. Unfortunately, the baboons got to enjoy my deck more than me.
Our guide OB expertly tracked animal tracks and had a treasure trove of information on animal behaviour and experience he would share with us. In 2 days while tracking a leopard, we saw a rare black rhinos, a white rhino, a herd of cape buffaloes looking to charge us; we almost collided with a baby elephant, and a warthog chased off a hyena. Every game drive is different from the last. A three hour game drive can fly quickly when you’re searching for something. The leopard remained to be seen. I take that as a reason to return again.
Customer service is top end - Robin, Matt, Jonas, Renee, Tsebo, And Kenny are few of the names I remember. They could all easily blend into 5 star boutique hotels. There’s a gym I didn’t use. The gift shop selection is well-stocked. I mean, who buys a DVD (about the famous leopard in residence - thanks to story telling by OB and Tsebo)? Guilty!
Overall a superlative fantastic and unforgettable experience. Pardon my sounding cliche, I left my heart in the wilderness. I will go off now and frame the thoughtful and beautiful print they gifted us as souvenir.
