The food here was expertly prepared. This is more of a restaurant for adults because of the atmosphere and food selections. Ask for a window seat. I would highly recommend this restaurant nit only because of the quality but also because there is little selection of others in the area. We had two dinners here and were very happy with both experiences. We also stayed at this hotel which was lovely.

Stayed locally at Craigrowan and were recommended to try this local hotel restaurant. Enjoyed dinner on successive nights and ended each. Very acceptable standard with good food and wine and friendly staff

Places to eat on Mull are few and far between. The Pennyghael is in a beautiful location beside the loch with delightful views. We were lucky to get in as booking in advance is advised. The owners were friendly and helpful. The menu has many locally sourced ingredients and the food we had was freshly prepared and very tasty. Hotel and self catering accommodation is also available.

A great pleasure to stay in one of Pennyghael Hotel's adjoining cottages and stroll next door for an evening meal. Extended menu this year, but the favourite remains Inverlussa mussels from a few miles up the road ! Food and service excellent and reasonably priced wines.

We booked a table for Dinner at the Pennyghael Hotel. Friendly welcome and drinks & menu offered. Nice light restaurant with stunning views over the Loch. My husband chose the Langustines followed by Rib-Eye steak, I ordered Venison pate followed by Venison steak. The bread roll for my husband was like a normal roll pulled from a multi pack, with one wrapped pat of butter. The toast with my pate, was two slices of ordinary sliced brown bread with the crusts still on & not crisp, no butter with this and we had to request some, two wrapped pats arrived. The Rib-Eye & Venison steaks were well cooked & tasty but just with a few grilled vine tomatoes, a small amount of mushrooms & a reasonable portion of standard fried frozen chips. A dish on the table contained sachets of sauces etc. The sound from a microwave oven could be clearly heard from time to time and was obvious that my Sticky Toffee Pudding, nice as it was, was bought in. This could be a very classy restaurant with a change to the menu (get rid of all the burgers etc) imagination from a forward thinking chef ready to take the restaurant up to the standard of the hotel is needed. We felt that a high price was payed for the standards offered. Although overall we had a tasty meal, I would not recommend this restaurant until they up the anti.

Dear Wynbar

Thank you for taking the time to review our small hotel restaurant, and for the nice comments. There are a few points that need correcting. With the restaurant situated on a remote part of west coast of Scotland, Isle of Mull, fresh bread is not readily available so all the rolls are baked daily by chef, he must have become very good at it if you thought they were factory made! We do have a commercial microwave as do most kitchens (very useful for speeding up baked potatoes before putting in the oven, nobody wants to wait 45 minutes for a potato) but it does not made any noise cooking or to say when it has finished, however our toaster does go “PING” to say it has finished. We use wrapped pats of butter and sachets of ‘Heinz’ sauces rather than the half gallon pots that sit around in a fridge for weeks. After feedback from our principle customers (hotel guests) we introduced a range of burgers as not everyone wants a large meal every night.

All the best

Tony (chef and owner)
