a great first impression this cottage provides! It has an instant air of calmness in its cool, coastal decor, stunning photography, it’s paintings and soft furnishings. The cottage just keeps on giving as wandering through into the kitchen you get spectacular vistas across the Seilebost beach towards Luskentyre. In fact, my next purchase on returning home will be a set of the same Denby mugs as I have used here at the cottage so that every time I use one for my morning cuppa my memories will be rekindled of looking out on that view and watching the oystercatchers.
A peaceful, cosy cottage even when the rain and wind comes, you can't help but enjoy spending time within it’s walls.
Everything and more needed for a relaxing break, and with two young children in tow use of the washing machine and tumble dryer (on rainy days) with use of products provided was an added bonus that we've not experienced in other self catering accommodation.
Great shower and bath for the smaller family members, and very comfy beds.
We met Peter the owner one day during our stay and what a pleasant gentleman, full of knowledge of the area, it's wildlife and best of all the best beaches and where to look for the multitude of different shells and sea creatures to keep the children enthused.
So many beaches you simply cannot tire of them, with such an expanse of soft white sands and turquoise seas, oh, how I will miss these!
We enjoyed exploring what Harris has to offer, amongst the great scenery, the Skoon Art cafe at Geocrab - what a find! Such friendly staff, great coffee, and lovely to chat with the artist himself Andrew John Craig and be surrounded by his exceptional canvases depicting the breathtaking views (albeit now short of a couple as I just had to purchase!)
The Machair Kitchen cafe restaurant within Talla na Mara at nearby Niseabost, another great place with delicious, freshly cooked and reasonably priced lunches, the kids menu was perfect and was a hit with my two! (we went back a second time too), lovely art works within working studios, and we managed to see an exhibition of Hope Blamire’s work ( again I felt compelled to purchase as she has captured the seascapes so well).
Catching a truly stunning sunset just topped off our stay here on Harris, the adventure may be over for us just now, but we will return, of that I'm sure!
Seol Mara is a cosy, traditional cottage that has been upgraded and has all mod cons, everything you could need for your stay is provided. The location is the best part, overlooking the bay at Luskentyre. The view and atmosphere are positively magical.
Lovely property with absolutely everything you could need for a wonderful stay. Right next to the beach, great views, every possible facility. Fab location on Harris, great for walking. Very well furnished, peaceful, large garden. The owners are easily contactable and ready to help or advise on anything, really friendly. Great welcome from the lovely local 'caretaker' and a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge too! When the weather's not so good the cottage is so snug and cosy it really doesn't matter. Will certainly be booking again.
We have just been fortunate enough to spend a whole month at Seol Mara, for us the perfect getaway, well provided with all the comforts you would expect in a recently modernised cottage. When we were not out and about exploring the hills and fabulous beaches on the doorstep, it was a great place to relax in and watch the wildlife on the seashore (Peter even provides binoculars) and the fabulous sunsets. We also appreciated the collection of books, guides and maps related to the islands. Harris is a truly exceptional place and we very much hope we shall be able to return to Seol Mara.
We stayed at Seol Mara during the Easter break with our two young kids. Gillian was very responsive and helpful prior to arrival, providing some ideas for things to do with our kids on Harris, etc.
On arrival, it was clear that they had gone the extra mile to make guests feel welcome, with some lovely touches like a bottle of prosecco awaiting us in the fridge :) The cottage is kitted out with everything you'd need and things you will have forgotten to bring too...including a good selection of books, games and DVDs. The cottage had extra touches that you might not expect as a given in a holiday rental e.g. good quality toiletries, well stocked kitchen cupboards, Harris tweed accessories, wood for the fire, etc. All these small things make a difference to the feel of your stay.
The location is simply amazing. The back garden leads down to the bay adjoining the sands of Luskentyre which was fun to go for a wander with the kids. It is very well placed to explore Harris and also for day trips up into Lewis.
I'd recommend this cottage to anyone!! :)
