Spent 3 nights here, and it was as stated a good place to use as a base to tour the local area. - Allan made us welcome when we arrived.
Lots to see round about, but if you decided just to chill and stay in, then there was a bookcase full of books, ( including some of Allan's photography books ) a stack of dvd's to watch and some board games.
The kitchen area had a microwave, a combi oven, toaster, kettle, and hob so all ideal if you wished to cook, although we found the kenbridge hotel and the thistle inn did tasty meals.

We made use of the log burner on the last day, when Lorna returned ( she had been away on business ) and she brought us some lovely chocolate treats and some other bits and bobs.

We had came for the Dark Skies, although cloudy the first night , the second we went to the Clatteringshaws site, but the third night we got the use of the garden and spent some time there looking skywards and then returned indoors to the warmth of the fire and glass of red- bliss.

A better arrangement than a b and b where you'd have to be up by a certain time and out of the premises, whereas , staying up late to look at the skies, meant we where also at liberty in the mornings to have a lie in and take our time getting ready to head out and do a wee bit of touring around.

“Lovely weekend retreat”
Reviewed 8 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Had a great time in this lovely wee apartment. Was spotless and was great to have access to the garden and take full advantage of the brief sunshine. We were also assisted in having a small bonfire which was a lot of fun.
We enjoyed the beautiful scenery but were not so impressed with Castle Douglas and expected it to have more in the way of restaurants as it had been deemed a 'food town'.

“Great stay”
Reviewed 20 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Stayed at Parton stables for a second time. Its the idea base for touring around the Galloway area. Quiet relaxing place, where you just wander up into the woods, relax in front of the woodturner and just Chill. Lovely Host Lorna who treated us to homemade Scones and cakes and i will be buying her cookbook when its out. Another visit planned for next year

“Relaxing and friendly family holiday”
Reviewed 11 January 2015 for a stay in July 2013

Decided to have a change of location for our family holiday and I liked the look of Parton stables from the advert on here. I contacted the owner Lorna Willock and she couldn't have been any more helpful. We were traveling with an 8 year old and a 9 month old baby and Lorna advised they could provide a travel cot and high chair which was a godsend as we would have had less space for luggage.
Lorna was also very honest and when I told her we don't drive she mentioned it is quite remote and out of the way and although there is a bus service she wouldn't want us to be stranded. Lorna also called me prior to our visit to make sure we didn't need anything else and to email me directions.
When we arrived we were welcomed by Lorna and her two dogs Millie & Tara. They were very friendly and got on well with both of my children. The property is the bottom part of a bigger building and Lorna told us that if we needed anything just to pop upstairs or shout up the stairs to her and her husband Allan.
The room is very cosy and with a camp bed and travel cot set up there was still room for us to move and the kids to play. There were DVD's, books and board games in the room just incase we were unable to get out too.
The bathroom had a beautiful bouquet of lilies waiting for us and the smell was amazing. There were also complimentary shower gels, shampoo/conditioners, and flannels. A nice touch. Lorna had also made her own muesli and cereals which were very healthy and tasted great.
There was a local bus service, which was a small bus but it ran a few times a day into Castle Douglas and back, which allowed us to get out and about and it accommodated our buggy.
On our third night the big bed snapped at one side when my husband sat on it and we popped up to let Lorna and Allan know. Allan came straight down and did a quick fix on the bed to ensure we were able to sleep on it and were comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. Lorna popped in to make sure we were ok for cereals and bring us some of her freshly grown veggies.
Lorna also offered to take us in to Cream O Galloway as she was going in to meet friends. This was so kind of her and allowed us to travel further afield than we would normally have been able to.
I would highly recommend this accommodation as it has everything you could possibly need. If you have a car it is a great central location for many attractions, which are listed in your welcome pack. But don't let that put you off as the bus service stops at the end of the driveway and allowed us to get out and about most days.
I was also fortunate enough to book a massage with Lorna for my birthday and I can honestly say it was the most relaxing and amazing massages I've ever had.
I would happily go back to Parton stables for a family break or a romantic getaway. And can't recommend it enough.
