We had a family day out at the Lacock Scarecrow Festival (Saturday) and called in on the way home as the kids were thirsty.
I went to the bar to order and the young girl who was serving asked if we were eating. When I said no, she replied in a hugely patronising manner, “Oh, really?” and promptly turned her back on us. After a couple of minutes of faffing about and seemingly doing nothing of any importance, she finally poured my drink before looking at my partner and rudely barking, and I quote, “What do you want?” She then did the same to the kids without the merest hint of a smile or so much as a please or thank you.
Her rudeness really irritated us so we decided to drink up and move on, but on leaving, I put all our empty glasses on the bar and said thanks and goodbye. I appreciate this is no big deal but having worked in pubs it’s something I always do, but again, the girl practically glared at us, didn’t acknowledge what I'd done, didn’t thank us for our custom or bother to say goodbye.
I know places like this make their money on food, but first and foremost it’s a pub, and as such, I don’t think we should be made to feel bad just because we wanted a couple of rounds of drinks. Talking of food, £9.50 for a baguette with a handful of chips? Ouch!
Not a good experience at all......
