“Bad breakfast and worse bathrooms”
Reviewed 8 June 2011

Bedroom and bathroom had not been serviced, worn in stains on carpets. Breakfast had no choice and even tea served from prepacked containers

The bar and restaurant area are very nicely presented and the food was very good. Only fault with restaurant - they cut the meat in front of the customers and one member of staff did not wash his hands before or after cutting the meat.
The stairs leading to the rooms had not been hoovered and indeed had toe nail clippings lying there!
The bedroom stank of smoke and I had to clean the bathroom before I could use it - the sink was filthy.
The rooms at the back of the hotel are being refurbished and I think these would be lovely however ours was on the road and the traffic noise was quite loud. However noise from the bar and other rooms was far worse and continued til approximately midnight and started again early in the morning. Not a good nights sleep!!!

Booked 2 rooms - ended up being moved
1bathrooms is a real dissapoiintment , and health risk
One had not been cleaned properly with used make up tissues and contraseptive pill wrapers in, plus the the sink beaker hadnt been washed out otreplaced form some considerable time . with old toothpste and mould in
th sink had a lon tem leak which had stained the floor and warpeed the woodwork

The baths had been installed the wron g way round in a dorma roof so you had to be a pigmy to use the shower - water no higher than my knees.

The hotel owners ( Counrty Inns ) must know abouyt these appauling showers/ baths

On the flip side- the staff were enthusiastic, but a liitle inexperienced
Food is excellent

4 rooms were booked for a stay for my son's wedding, but we had to be given 5 rooms because 1 of them was unsuitable for sharing.2 double rooms were okay. The room I was allocated to share with a friend was not up to standard. The bathroom door would not close due to being warped at the bottom,so they were put in the other room, which had cobwebs and spiders in it.The 5th room was given to a friend, who found himself locked out after going out for some fresh air,and could not get back in,and had to climb over the roof to get to his room, because it was so dark outside he did not see the fire escape until the morning, although that would have been even more dangerous beacause it was covered in leaves and other things making it unsafe to use at any time.

The White Hart is located beside the busy A4130, and is ideally placed for visiting Henley-On-Thames and the surrounding areas. We arrived at the hotel for a 2 night stay following a disappointing 4 night carvan break.

On our arrival we were greeted by the General Manager 'Martin' who was very welcoming. We stayed in a quirky large double room with a mattress on the floor for our daughter, a fold away Z-bed would have been preferable. The room was noisy as it was located on the front of the building, but the secondary glazing proved to be a great soundproofing tool. The bathroom was a little disappointing, and needed an extra 10 minutes of cleaning to be satisfactory, but that said it is a very old buildling and I believe a programme of refreshment is due to begin soon.

The customer areas are stylishly furnished providing cosy and private areas with sofas, armchairs, rugs and throws which lends itself well to guests, but could be off putting to locals who may wish for more of an open aspect to the bar area. As guests though we found this a nice area to relax with a drink and a newspaper.

We ate in the hotels restaurant both nights and were very impressed by the quality of the food - excellent chef!! Our 8 year old daughter was well catered for by the chef who made a great 'Hobgoblin Pie' (Child size portion), and again made to feel very welcome amongst fellow dining guests. It was clear that Martin, Sophie (Bar Manager/Waitress) and Lucas (Relief Manager) work exceptionally hard in the Reception, Bar and Restaurant areas, and always were pleasant and attentive.

It became apparent that the front of house staff had many tasks to carry out, and Im sure the same can be said for the staff behind the scenes, which unfortunately will ocassionally lead to lower standards when over stretched. It seemed that the owner of the White Hart has several other premises, so Im sure resources are spread thinly meaning staff are worked incredibly hard - the White Hart Hotel is a cracker largely down to the professionalism of its staff, so more staff and business focus should be placed here to ensure its success.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends, and we would stay there again for sure. Once again a big thank you to Martin, Sophie, Lucas and to all others that made a stay at the White Hart Hotel an enjoyable one.
