Highly recommend "the Loft"

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Dec 2020
We had a lovely weekend in "The Loft". This is one of two rooms on the top floor, and is only accessed by an exterior staircase - so it is not suitable for disabled residents. The room is comfortable, and there is a large bath in the bathroom. Under COVID regulations breakfast is supplied in the room.

Avoid staying here at all costs.
Read the reviews carefully as the bistro has many good reviews but the rooms have many terrible reviews.

My partner and I chose to stay here for the night, we arrived at Wild Garlic and self checked in the room. I was immediately disappointed, this was certainly not what I saw from the pictures on their website. They advertise the rooms as a boutique B&B when in fact they are quite the opposite. The room was dingy, lacked natural light, could not open windows, bed and sofa looked very worn and a poor finish in general. The breakfast was left in the room - a muffin, yogurt and packet of granola, not the bistro downstairs as made out on the website. We also found hairs on the bed and white stains all over the sofa... we actually laid towels to sit on for the 10 minutes we stayed there for.

We decided to leave and book alternative accommodation. I contacted the owner direct and the booking website also contacted them, we spoke about our reasons for not staying and the most disappointing thing was that they decided not to approve a refund. I can not believe we paid £110 to stand in the room for less than 10 minutes...

Message to owner - stop falsely advertising and be fair...

We had the luxury of staying in wild garlic restaurant and rooms, and to be honest, I didn’t expect much from a small room let above a restaurant... I could not have been further from that, since the room we got was the loft, was simply amazing. Very big room, massive very comfortable king size bed (a rarity in the UK) and a very good size bathroom with a big rain shower. Very comfortable, quiet, even though it is in the town center. Will definitely stay there again next time we go to Nailsworth.

The Loft was spacious, comfortable and clean but we had minor niggles that let it down; no plug in the bathroom sink, a seemingly fixed (or stuck?) temperature dial on the shower, which was not hot enough, very low hot water pressure making the bath far too big to fill unless you start half an hour before you want to bathe, having to climb in the bath to open or close the window. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. Unfortunately I did not pick up on booking that the restaurant being closed Sunday night -Wednesday meant we would not be able to have a 'fresh' breakafst but would have food left in the room on the previous day. This meant that the croissants and other pastries were a day old by the time we needed them and the selection of cereals was not brilliant (Cocoa Pops, Shreddies, All Bran, Special K) meaning myself and my wife were arm wrestling for the one we wanted (these were not replenished after our first day). I really wanted to like this accommodation more than I did but perhaps our experience would have been better if we had visited at the end of the week.

Everything about this delightful place is well thought out , designed and applied . We had booked online and when arrived the staff member greeted us warmly , she showed us our room and noticed that there was only a queen bed and not a small bed for our seven year old . She said she would try to get a bed sorted and we left to explore the area.
We returned and she had sorted it out , upgraded us to the Nest a splendid apartment which our son had his own small bedroom , at no extra cost .
The breakfast ( included ) was Farm fresh the milk in metal canisters the cooked breakfast excellent!
Highly recommend.

We stayed in the Loft for two nights, well out of season (Sunday/Monday night), so breakfast is left in the room for the next day. Not as nice as having a sit down breakfast, but we knew that would be the case with the restaurant closed on Mon/Tue. Nice selection of teas, fruit juices and milk in the fridge.
Huge bed and comfortable. Lovely bathroom also (bath was a draw but although nice, actually too big (or we are too small), as you can't grip your feet at the end. Good shower though and overall, a lovely base for our exploring of that part of the Cotswolds. No specific parking, but we had no problem using car park opposite, just need to move the car by 10am as limit is 2 hours of parking (excluding overnight).

Room tip: The Loft, no-one above you. There is room next door and could hear neighbour occasionally
