Wanted to find a typical English Pub serving a typical Sunday Roast and found this place. By its own admission it’s a pub first and food second kind of place, however this didn’t stop it producing an amazing roast beef with all the trimmings. It’s a cosy wee pub with a great atmosphere, wood burning stove, good beer and friendly staff. Would highly recommend for a Sunday lunch. Big slices of perfectly cooked beef with all the trimmings including fresh horseradish cream. A cosy wee gem on a very driech day.

For some good, satisfying pub food and great atmosphere right in the shopping heart of Lyme Regis you should look no further. Portions are very generous. Our fish&chips was very good and the service is super friendly and efficient. At very reasonable prices you really can't ask for more.

We called in for a quick drink before heading off for dinner. It was good to see such a welcome pub with locals having a drink and a natter by a log fire. Why are proper pubs in such short supply. This will be a port of call for any time I am in Lyme. The young barmaid was attentive and friendly, despite us being strangers. I could have spent more time here having a relaxed drink or two.

We popped into the Volunteer Inn in the hope of an early dinner and were lucky to find a table available until the place was due to be fully booked from 7.30pm. All four of us (including our 11 and 13 year olds) found a good variety of main courses to choose from, although starters were narrower.

The seafood chowder and mackerel rarebit were both very good as starters, then we enjoyed salmon with crab risotto, game pies and fish and chips. The risotto was very well cooked and tasty. The game pie a big portion with excellent pastry and good flavoured meat. The fish has a light batter and excellent chunky chips.

The high quality food seemed excellent value, at £66 for all four of us ordering off the main menu with drinks. Service was prompt and very friendly. An excellent find for dinner, which we plan to return to.

The Volley has gone up in the world since I was a lad. It's a nice chilled local with some incredible food - if it's on the specials board try the Seafood Chowder it's to die for.
