Dartmoor prison has fascinated me since I was a child so we finally took an opportunity whilst driving through Dartmoor on our way home to visit the museum.
We received a lovely welcome and the kids were full of questions which were answered with detail. The museum is fascinating and is definitely worth a visit, it won’t take more than a few hours max to go round but you do get the opportunity to see first hand some of the items made by prisoners and read stories of its history and famous prisoners.
No photos allowed inside museum.
Our kids are 6 and 10, I probably wouldn’t suggest much younger as it was difficult at times to answer the questions of the 6 year old.
You are able to walk along the road passed the prison and get a closer look.
Definitely worth stopping on your way through.
