My husband and I traveled through Cornwall and Devon in September and October . We are both
retired, so our perspective on this review may be slightly different from others. We stayed in Haybarton Cottage, which is delightful. The furniture was above the average holiday house. The house has 2 bedrooms upstairs with beautiful country views, each with an en suite. The third bedroom is downstairs near the eat-in kitchen with all the conveniences - even a Leisure stove. Very nice laundry room with washer and dryer as well as room to sort clothes and fold them. We chose the downstairs bedroom with a large ensuite. The bed was very comfortable with both a cotton spread as well as a comforter. We each have CPAP machines to use while we sleep.
Therefore, bedside tables and power outlets are important to use. This room had a large
bedside table which stood between the twin beds. We found power outlets behind headboards. The bath is large and airy with a large walk-in shower and a towel warmer.
Internet connectivity is important to us. The WiFi was download 7mbps: 0.3mbps upload, which is a very useable speed. Checking email surfing the internet are easy. Parking for our car was next to the cottage. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed for almost 3 weeks. We contracted with person who cleans between occupants to come twice a week for a fair rate. It made life easier. If you plan to stay for a week or more, We recommend you ask Caroline when booking for this service.
My friends and I rent a cottage about once a year and have done so since the 90's - its an opportunity for old school friends to meet up now that our busy lives have propelled us to various parts of the country (and in one case, Eastern Europe). As such, this time is particularly precious and the choice of location and cottage important. Our recent stay here was perfect. The Haybarton cottage was delightful, impeccably appointed (charming original rustic features married with all the modern comforts of home) beautifully located and the wonderfully warm welcome from Richard and Patsy confirmed we had made the right choice. This was, by a country mile, the best cottage break we have ever taken and I can't recommend it enough to anyone considering a comfortable country break in England. Words simply don't do justice to the views of the river valley flanked by beautiful hills. It is simply impossible to pick one thing we liked best. It was all fantastic! We are definately returning. We stayed in Cowbyre Cottage here, one of two cottages adjoining the owners parents home in the delightful village of Upottery. The cottage has three bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, a living and dining area with a great wood burner and a well equipped kitchen. The cottage is finished to a high standard and is warm and comfy and spotlessly clean. Views from the cottage are out to the extensive grounds and adjoining countryside which is really beautiful. Great base to explore this beautiful area and a pub within 10 minutes easy walk, even in the dark (although torch advisable!). Richard and Patsy, the owners parents make you very welcome and are on hand should you need any help/advice. A welcome pack including local produce and a treat for our dog was much appreciated.
