We've stayed at the Metropole a few times before and have loved it.
Once in a four poster bedroom and then a family room with our daughter.
The hotel has a wonderful position over looking the Camel Estuary and Rock and on a clear day the views are beautiful.
This time we stayed for two nights in a double room and a twin room... Oh my it as so hot... We had to open the windows and turn off the radiators.. I dread to think of what it would be like on a hot day in summer as there is no a/c... Maybe they just need to turn the heating down a notch or two.
This time we decided to take up the offer of welcome tea and biscuits... It was hilarious... 3 tiny ginger biscuits were delivered to our table! My daughter ran back up to the room to get some that were on our tea tray.
Breakfast... On our stays before there was a lovely selection of fresh fruit... This time a bowl of chopped fruit, there was no selection of cheeses or salamis this time either ... You have to ask for those now. Orange Juice used to be fresh, now I am sure it's out of a carton...
We felt very rushed on our second morning, ( we had one of the best seats over looking the harbour so maybe that's the reason why)...
The actual hotel has a beautiful charm about it but it's quite shabby.. Peeling paint on the Windows for example so could do with some tlc.
There was some mould in the shower which wasn't pleasant but the rest of the rooms were ok... The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of pillows (on a previous trip I had requested feather pillows and they remembered this time too) The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
We think this has the potential to be a lovely hotel, it's in a fabulous position but it needs to have some money spent on it to make it a good 4 star hotel.
Yes we would stay again... But I think that is more because it's become a little family tradition for us to go in winter when Padstow isn't heaving with holiday makers...

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are the best, you could end up with a view of the car park!

Stayed in a superior double room with sea view, which was lovely and very large. When we arrived in our room, in front of the bay window was a bottle of presecco chilling in an ice bucket and an anniversary card from the hotel - very touched! (I'd forgotten I'd even mentioned it when I booked weeks ago.)
Food was excellent. Breakfast can be a bit slow when it's busy, but if you're not in a hurry it's worth the wait.

Room Tip: Worth paying for a sea view imo. Some rooms at the back and side overlook the carpark and delivery area.

We have visited the Metropole many times and are never disappointed and this time was no exception. As returning guests we were presented with a welcome back card, box of home made fudge and two complimentary glasses of champagne. Plus the room was much better than expected with lovely views over the estuary. We visited for my birthday but as often happens at this time of year the weather was not good so we cut the visit short to get home before the snow hit.

Even though the stay was short we had a good time - the staff are all excellent, the food as good as ever, the room facilities very good.

My worry is whether or not this hotel will continue in it's current form now it is in administration. I sincerely hope it survives.

Stayed in one of the executive rooms for 3 nights in February, small double bed, Windows with cracks in glass, heating on but so cold with drafts from Windows and balcony door. Balcony not clean but lovely view. Bathroom again cold crack in window, not clean to a high standard. Complementary tea/coffee and plenty of storage. Slippers on arrival but not dressing gowns.
Car park had to to pay for and put ticket in window, but still struggled to park as not all cars had a ticket yet reception just shrug shoulders even when you have paid. Car park is full of large pot holes.
Breakfast was good, hot choices cooked to order.
I would not say this is a 4 star hotel and not recommend the room upgrade.
Hotel needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard of 4 star.

We stayed here for two nights when I went to the Rick Stein cookery school nearby.

Hotel was built in the early 1900s and has been maintained in period style. The restaurant, bistro and bar has tremendous views over the estuary, port and Padstow itself.

We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and found the choice and quality of food excellent and good value. All the staff we met ( reception, bar, restaurant) were all very friendly and helpful with nothing being too much trouble.

Hotel also situated within a few minutes walk of Padstow itself and has car parking.

All in all we had a great stay and look forward to coming back.
