“Golfing Tour of North Norfolk”

Royal West Norfolk Golf Club
Reviewed 30 May 2017

We visited 7 courses all along the Coast, this was supposed to be the Pinnacle of our trip, but when you take into account the entire experience our group thought this well down the pecking order!

The course is a historic links, and was in reasonable condition, but greens were slow and needed cutting (recent heat wave may have prevented them from doing so, but other courses seemed to manage). The Clubhouse is also historic, dark & musky smelling, which unfortunately mirrored the hospitality awarded to our to a visiting party, from staff and members alike! No choice of food, and not one smile or welcoming comment all day!

From our experience, Hunstanton GC is now the premier course on the North Norfolk Coast, highly recommended, a better course, in better condition, with better greens, and much better service and hospitality!!!!

This a real links course treasure. If you are a golfer visiting Norfolk as I was, this should be at the top of your list. Only a 10 MPH wind, so it played close to its yardage. I imagine it would be a real test of your game when the wind is blowing. Very easy to book, with a quick call to the club secretary. Had a quick lunch in the bar afterwards. Everyone was very hospitable.

Amazing place and a quirky clubhouse that sits perfectly with the history and feel of the place. Once you've avoided the hide tide that blocks the road to the club you find a tranquil spot to play your sport. Each hole is different and the condition was fabulous. The fish and chips after the game was just the ticket too.

Great course. Poor welcome. Awful clubhouse, musty and old. Perhaps the gentry like that. Played other good courses on the area and enjoyed the whole experience much more. Great course let down badly by the clubhouse.

From the moment you make the long drive down towards the beach where the clubhouse is perched you know you're at a classic English links.

The pro shop is small but well appointed, the driving range more than adequate with a decent short game area and as you would expect the clubhouse is very much in keeping. The first bar area in the clubhouse is clad in old wood with a huge open fire, a brilliant place to sit and read the many old honours boards.

Upstairs in the clubhouse is the dining area which offers unbelievable views down the beach, the food itself nothing special but fills a hole.

Now for the course, a classic 9 out and 9 in Links, presented in immaculate condition the times I've visited. The holes are all individual testing all areas of the game. One day to the next the course can play completely different due to the wind.

If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by for a round.
