Visited mid afternoon for lunch and was welcomed with a warm glow from the lights and the log fire. Don't be put of by the lack of frontage to this pub/restaurant.Once inside it provides a warm glow and comfortable seating at which you can dine. It is extremely clean and all the staff are very welcoming too. Although the menu has a limited choice the quality of the food is excellent and the drink is good as well. My wife and I both had the rib-eye steak and for the price was excellent value. Will definitely visit again in the future.

So close to being brilliant but not quite sure what its decided to be. The bar is lovely with a nice post walk vibe and enough to make it a nice end of walk bite to eat and pint place. The bar menu has enough to keep you happy even if its one or two pounds too expensive for what it is. We opted for the restaurant, whilst lovely lacked atmosphere, abit of background music or bar room chatter would have gone a long way. Now for the food, the starters were brilliant I had the makrel and my wife the pork both were beautiful new and worth the cost. Then came the main, I had partridge, erm ok at best, the leg meat was seasoned beautifully but the breast was as dry as a bone. My wife had the pork, again with elements of lovelyness the meat fell onto the fork, but the crispy tarmac looking skin was a joke, despite several attempts to work out why or indeed if it was a dental challenge we gave up. The village is awash with brilliant places to eat from the sublime avianti to the equally lovely local chippie, if the Sun Inn is to last it needs to do fine dining better or match the gastro pub.

Had a really lovely evening. Service was warm, attentive and efficient. The food was interesting and delicious. We had heard The Sun was good and had read the reviews. I honestly can't believe anyone could find fault. In every way the evening was lovely.

Been here probably 15-20 times over 10 year period. Recently went for Sunday lunch and was really average which is such a shame as was high up there on my top places to eat up here. The place itself is gorgeous but the food and service isn't great at the moment. Such a shame as the setting and facilities are lovely...

Hard to put finger on it but service just seemed to lack energy - wasn't inspiring, not 'special'. No-one asked how meal was or started any genuine friendly conversation. Doesn't have to be long, but it's part of the service... Where are the smiles? Head waitress didn't seem happy at all! Landlord was smiley and welcoming though when we arrived...

Meal wise - starters to be fair were beautiful but main course for Roast Beef meal didn't taste how it looked. Meat was rather bland & fatty, veggies over done and red cabbage on side losing colour... The young waitress at the bar, with long blonde hair who settled our bill was good - actually bought a bit of life to our encounter with the Sun.

I'd go back but only for drinks in front of the fire/possibly a casual bar meal but there's too many other good places to eat in Kirkby now that are so good they need to up their game again. Hope they turn it around soon as it's a great pub and has so much potential. Brill spot when done right!
