We've used this hotel a few times for a light lunch when in Hungerford but today was unbelievable, asked at the bar if we could run a tab as we were going to have a drink followed by food later, no problem, got the drinks and about quarter of an hour later the barman came over and said did we want food only to be told as they had not had the delivery there was no food, all he could offer after going to the kitchen was a tuna sandwich, we had our drinks paid up and left and this was about 12.45pm, a hotel with no food what about the guests? went round the corner to the John O' Groats and had a lovely meal.

Thank you for your review, I am sure the John O'Groats (John O'Gaunt would turn in his grave as a leading Hungerford figure) are delighted to receive your patronage. As part of a chain like Wetherspoons we are restricted to having food delivered by nominated suppliers for Allergen purposes and as such when the delivery had not arrived the decision was taken (not lightly by the Duty Manager) to stop food service to avoid a string of people trying to order the 36 items that were currently off the menu due to missing components of a dish , which if replaced with others would have contravened EU allergen laws.

Popped in for a drink before leaving the area after an overnight stay in Marlborough. Large hotel bar and dining facilities which were being fully utilised. Food that passed us looked good. The staffing was a little haphazzard at the bar, but otherwise good.

After returning to The Bear this weekend I was amazed at the recent room
refurbishment that has been undertaken.

Bear island has had a complete makeover
along with the main building with new furniture, bed frames, redesigned and new bathrooms and quality mattresses for a great nights sleep. one of the best and cleanest rooms I have stayed in for a while.

A pleasant surprise and with friendly staff and management we will definitely be back.

Just returned from my cousins wedding and what a weekend. We had originally booked two rooms, but sadly we had a bereavement and needed to cancel. We rebooked a room and requested a twin which the hotel said they would do if there was one available. On arrival the kind receptionist caroline, who took my booking, offered us two double rooms instead, as i would have shared a double with my brother. Having worked as a thomson rep before i know hotels dont have to do this but they really went out their way to make our stay perfect. Room was lovely, tv with lots.of channels, good hairdryer a lot of hotel dryers are not very good but the hotel supplied one which was very good. Ironing boards and hangers in wardrobe and tea and coffee facilities too. Bed was super comfy and was high up too. Walk in shower was amazing. We had a meal in the bar night before wedding. Reasonably priced, lots of choice and very yummy. Breakfast was good too. Hot and cold options available. Help yourself to as much cold foods and can order a hot.option on top. Wedding room was lovely too and i really enjoyed the wedding breakfast and buffet. Staff all really friendly. If i am ever in this part of country again, i wouldn't think twice about coming back here. Thank you for a lovely stay.
