We stayed at The Bear as we needed a dog-friendly place while meeting relatives for a celebration nearby. Our room was on the ground floor of a quiet annex with French windows opening straight over a tiny bridge onto the lawn. The main part of the old hotel has a lovely enclosed courtyard area which must be wonderful for drinks or a meal in the summer, especially when the wisteria is flowering.
It was only a short walk into the characterful town, where we were lucky to find a Victorian themed Christmas Fair taking place.
We did not sample an evening meal due to our party, but were pleased that we could take the dog into the bar and lounge area later. Breakfast was ample, and the dining room quite atmospheric. The staff were later quite happy to provide morning tea and coffee in the lounge for our relatives to join us - and the dog! All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and we wished that we could have stayed more than one night. I would certainly not class this as a budget hotel but we were amazed at the low price for B&B, and no extra for the dog.More
