“a little bit of luxury!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

Overall my husband and I had a wonderful week on a half-board basis. this is a lovely hotel in a beautiful area at the end of a promenade, quiet but yet within walking distance to more busy areas. Although a large hotel it never felt overcrowded, Not many people seemed to use the two pools so I was often in the pool myself - great for decent swimming! A good library for leaving or borrowing books, Food good, staff helpful and welcoming. Entertainment was not the best I have experienced but okay. Just very relaxing in beautiful surroundings,

Exceptional hotel in my view. First class service, polite and friendly staff, excellent food and a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel is clean and welcoming and i struggle to find anything negative.
In a good location with some nice places to vist only a short walk either way up the coast, nice views from the hotel and the pools are immaculate.
I would normally take a villa having experienced the disappointment of staying in hotels in the past, but this surpassed my expectation and re kindled my faith in hotel based vacations.
The hotel tends to attract an older client and is not well prepared for children or younger people, the advantage here is the peace and quiet the downside is that teenagers would wish to explore the less attractive side of Tenerife in Los Cristianos or Playa de la Americas.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the gardens, ground floor is ideal with immediate access to the pool and outside re...

In this area the hotel grounds are lined up at the seaside like castles, most with nice garden and pool areas, seperated by walls or fences. The Riu Palace is no exception with it´s vast and well kept exteriors. Only the promenade seperates it from a small beach. And speaking of walls and fences: u need a plastic key to leave and renter the premises...The hotel itself is also well kept. I got a room on the fourth floor with nice garden and seaview. The room was quite spacious and clean. Ditto for the bathroom although the tapware could need some refurbishment in the near future. I booked my room with breakfast included. Because of the excellent weather i always ate on the patio on the 6th floor. That was a quite nice experience especially when i think. about the vast and quite noisy indoor restaurant. On the other hand the location of the hotel made it a little bit sophisticated to get have Lunch or Diner. The next little town Caleta is a 15-20 minute walk (with a beach short-cut) where u can find some nice and mostly inexpensive restaurants. But most of the guests seemed to fancy half board so at dinner time there was a large crowd hanging round in the foyer and the bar area waiting for the restaurant to open..

Just returned from spending a week at this hotel and it is as the other reviews have said, very clean and well maintained, very friendly staff with a smile and hello all day long, and the food is great - you would only have yourself to blame if you left the restaurant hungry. The sunbeds are plenty and even if people do get up early to save them and you wonder down later that isnt a problem as there are so many there are always ones free. The pool area is gated to the seafront and you get a keypass to get onto the walkway by the sea (where you can walk for miles, turn left for the busier areas of town or right to the small fishing village with great fish restaurants) For us the hotel was in an excellent part of the town as we like it quiet but a bus ride or walk will take you to the more touristy areas.

We were on the 6th floor of the hotel with a side sea view, a little bit disappointed we werent on the seafront overlooking the pool but the room did get the sun until late into the afternoon, and thats what we like. We did hear some people asking to change rooms at the reception and they did seem very accommodating if you wished to do this, so if your not happy with your view my advice would be to ask, they seem to be very helpful in this respect, if they can change you they will. The safety deposit boxes are 15 Euro each week.

There is a mini bar in the room but no kettle, we took a travel kettle and it came in handy as the coffee is really strong and we also like a cup of tea in the morning. The supermarkets only 5 mins away to buy milk so if you need your fix of nescafe and PG Tips take a kettle. Try the hotels iced coffee though, around the pool its lovely.

Sorry this review is only telling you what you have already probably read but there isnt alot to say that hasnt been said already.

One tiny gripe, you have to vacate the room at 11 am on departure day and if your pick up is later in the day there isnt a lot going on in the hotel to occupy you. We decided therefore to request a late check out so we could lounge by the pool and they can only tell you if this is possible the night before. (I dont like to wonder too far on the day we are leaving and like to be at least in the hotel grounds) For the 4 hours we had the room they charged us 50 Euros. A little bit cheeky i think when we didnt get the room until 7pm on the day of arrival. Anyway i suppose if we keep paying they will keep charging.

Anyway if you want to know anything else please email me and if you book im sure youl have a great time.

I returned from this hotel on monday and have had a brilliant holiday. On arrival we were given a welcome drink and then taken to our room on the 4th floor with a sea view which was gorgeous.
The food at the hotel was very good with an option of buffet or waiter service, I found that the choice and quality was of a good standard. We were seated next to a lovely couple which was just as well because the tables are very close together. We dined at the Krystal restaurant which was absolutely brilliant and this is included, very nice for a special treat one night.
We took a trip through the rep to lorro parque which was an amazing day out, I would definitely recommend this if you like animals and Orca, Dolphin and sea lion shows were great.
We walked along the front most days to various shops, bars and restaurants which took about 15 minutes but it was nice to walk along the sea front- the views are lovely.
The bus service was just outside the sister hotel the riu arecas and a bus to los cristianos is 2.80 euros for 2 people one way which is very reasonable. We also went to las americas for a night out in a taxi which was around 12 euros each way but worth a look out.
The pool was nice and quiet and you could get a sun lounger at any time of the day.
The staff at the hotel are very helpful and always said "hola" whenever you pass them.
The entertainment is pretty standard but the hotel band were really good.
I would definitely return to this hotel, I have stayed in a few Riu hotels and this was the best one so far but will be visiting others without a doubt.

Room Tip: email the hotel in advance for a sea view or pay extra in advance- well worth it!
