My husband and I stayed for one night in this Parador. We noticed it on our way back from a stay in the Parador at Cordoba and decided we must visit just because of its elevated position and magnificent building. Its on our wish list to visit as many Paradors as we can. We were not disappointed with the location. As previously stated by another traveller, Carmona is a hidden delight. One downsize is getting to the Parador, it is very well signposted but if you enter from the West, it takes you through very very narrow hilly streets, which is quite daunting in a larger vehicle. If we every re-visit we will enter via the East where getting to the Parador is quicker and easier. The bed was comfortable, food lovely, only downside is the country location and the closeness of several farms. If you have a room, as we did with a balcony overlooking the plains, dogs bark and donkey bray, continually. Being dog owners who live in the county, it didn't disturb our sleep but others may find it rather annoying.

Room Tip: Rooms from 401 to 413 are the ones with balconies which face South.

Parador de Carmona, Spain, located on top of hill overlooking plains of Seville (some miles away). The rooms were spacious with balconies offering spectacular views. All rooms have minibar and safe, but no tea kettle or clock. Free Wi-Fi (supposedly not available in rooms, but no problem in room 412 on balcony). Accessible plugs for charging electronics by bedside table (recommend a power strip to charge multiple devices). The usual bathroom amenities with good towels, vanity mirror, hair dryer, and plug for curling iron. Take plastic bag to bar for ice. Restaurant and parking on site.

We had high expectations of this Parador, both from reviews on Trip Advisor and from a friend´s experience (admittedly 25 years ago), but I am afraid our expectations were not met. On the positive side, the position of the Parador is good with great views across the plain, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the public rooms were big and airy and our bedroom was of a good size with comfortable beds. However, on the downside the light in the lobby of room did not work (but the bulb was replaced after we reported it), the bedside switch to turn it off did not work, there was a large water stain on the shade of one of the bedside lights and in the bathroom there was mould ingrained into the grout round the bath. In addition we were served coffee in a chipped cup, and drink measures were on the stingy side compared to other Paradores. Overall this was not what would have expected from any 4 Star hotel.

This Parador sits on top of a high hill overlooking a vast plain. The town of Carmona is a hidden treasure. It dates back to Roman times and was on the main road from Cordoba to Seville. The original Roman gates in and out of the town are still preserved as well as a Roman bridge. The hotel is in an old castle which has been restored. The rooms are very quaint and comfortable. The reception, bar and dinning area are very unique situated in the old castle building. There is an outdoor patio bar that has a fabulous view over the country side. You can see for miles and it's easy to see why the Romans built the town & castle there. They could easily see enemies approaching. The drive to Seville is very easy (major highway) and takes about 1/2 hour.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view over the countryside.

I had wanted to stay in a Parador for the last 40 years and so was really looking forward to the experience. The location is excellent with easy access to Sevilla. Carmona is a charming place. There are wonderful views from the hotel. However the décor of our room was tired and in need of a lick of paint. The bedside rugs were filthy with dirty stains. The hairdryer was partly broken and the internal wires were exposed (this they did change when I complained). The barmen were grumpy to the point of rudeness. The worst experience was the dinner. The staff were off-hand and did not behave in a professional manner. For a far better experience eat at Yedra just down the road - the staff are attentive - refilling wine and water glasses, enquiring if we were enjoying the meal in fact everything one would expect from a Parador. However at the Parador the meal was dumped on the table without a word, nobody refilled our glasses or in fact approached us again. Nobody brought us a menu for dessert - then we overheard that we could help ourselves from the buffet - otherwise we would have selected from the menu and paid unnecessarily. Nobody asked us if we would like coffee or brought us the bill - we had to go to the till and wait until one of the staff finished their conversation and noisily arranging the breakfast tables. The dining room was totally lacking in atmosphere. The meal was forgettable and over-priced. It felt like a canteen or a care-home! I know people have had wonderful experiences at Paradores but it seemed that the management at Carmona was out of touch.
