Description: We are a beautiful little personal restaurant right in the center of a Medieval Village called Carlingford. Co. Louth. We provide a wonderful array of beautiful meals... Carlingfords only Michelin rated restaurant. We also have 7 beautiful B & B rooms located on our premises. We serve not only the freshest of produce, fish, meats and everything else on our premises. Our poly tunnel supplies us a lot of the year with fresh herbs, salad leaves from our garden which is also on site. We serve freshly ground coffee and lovely cups of tea in the morning and it is a delight to walk through our little garden on a summers evening. We have 2 private function rooms which can hold up to 40. Christenings, Communions, Birthdays, all occasions, specializing in our service for pre-wedding meals.

Impromptu birthday meal for two, booked in advance as it was Fathers Day and expecting places to be crowded, managed to get a booking, not too late for lunch. Seated promptly, Excellent size of table so didn't feel cramped. Had hoped for A-la-Carte menu not realising there was a set menu on but we should have known better (Fathers Day). Menu still looked good, plenty of tasty options and staff were all very very friendly, patient and accommodating. Got a jug of water to ourselves which I was very happy with. Ordered crispy duck samosas and smoked haddock fishcakes for starters, both surprisingly good, I'm usually wary of fishcakes being dry potato patties of disappointment but these were lovely and light and flavoursome with wasabi mayo. The duck samosas were also delicious, a bit heavier but great flavour combination and the mustard was an interesting touch. Mains were beef short rib which was cooked perfectly, and cod which was tasty. Nice hearty food, not over-the top, no overly fancy, just good food done well, portions just the right size, nice atmosphere and again couldn't fault the staff, who all managed to be cheery and attentive even when the place was full. Family friendly and there were some big groups with kids but we weren't bothered as a couple as there was plenty of space and kids were enjoying their meals too.

This place concentrates on food - no frills just good food and that’s its - dinning room is comfortable - staff are very good - a place I would be happy to return - no prentious rubbish - good wine menu and craft beers - this guy Conor had the gift - however I would love to see small continual improvements on a casual basis here - perhaps another angle in casual decor- wouldn’t change the food - well done Conor

The food was nice but rather expensive for what was on offer.

The menu choice was small. I would recommend checking the menu first before you book, especially if you have plain or picky eaters.

The service was poor and not what we expected considering the positive reviews.

We left a cake off earlier that day as a surprise for one of our party. We left sparkler candles with it and asked for it to be brought out after the mains. This was again re-iterated to them when we arrived. When they eventually brought the cake to our table there were no candles on it! We asked the waitress why this had happened and she told us they couldn't use them because they would set the smoke alarms off! This was really disappointing and ruined the surprise. Staff did not think to tell us about the candle issue when we dropped the cake off nor on our arrival. At least we would have had time to sort an alternative if this had been the case. No one took ownership for this mistake or provided us with an apology.

We left feeling out of pocket and overlooked.

The service was nothing special and could be improved.
