Owner description: "With over 100 exotic cats and other wildlife on display, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is one of the largest big cat sanctuaries in the United States. The non-profit USDA licensed refuge, founded in 1992, has grown to become one of the Top 10 attractions in Arkansas and the most popular in Eureka Springs. Lions, cougars, leopards, tigers, and bears are displayed in large natural habitats surrounding the main enclosures and gift shop. Each animal has its own story/history plaque for self-guided tours and over night accommodations are available via the Safari Lodge, RV park, and camping facilities. Guided tours are available from 10am until 4pm (Summer) or 3pm (Winter). The refuge is open year round (except Christmas Day) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.."

Although it was very cold that day we still enjoyed seeing the animals and learning about their pasts.

Joe W., wouldn't it be nice if Arkansas would make up its mind on its weather? We're glad you had a great time despite the chilly, windy day! We look forward to your next visit!

We spent the afternoon at this location. We took the guided walking tour. Our tour guide was very informative and knew a lot about each animal rescue. She spoke with passion and has a genuine love for what she does.

Loved walking around to see the animals, sad that they have to be here. Worth the time to get the tour and hear the stories of the animals. Would love to go back and hear the animals 'sing' sometime.

Hi, CMD02014. We often say that our goal is to "put ourselves out of business," and we are only half-joking with that statement. We hope that someday, there won't be a need for big cat sanctuaries because the exotic pet trade and private ownership will be a thing of the past. We are advocating for a new bill, H.R. 1818, The Big Cat Public Safety Act, in order to make that happen. If you would like, you can visit the "Advocacy" tab on our website to find out how to support the bill.

We're so glad you enjoyed your visit. The best times to hear the animals sing is first thing in the morning and later in the day. We hope you can come back experience that!

This was such a special place! Located about 6 miles south of Eureka Springs on route 23! The cats that TCWR had appeared to be healthier and in better condition that the many we had seen in large zoos. The intern guide that narrated as we drove around the refuge had only been there one month but she knew each cat by name, interesting, provided informative information and answered our eyes turns - and she only been there a month! The refuge provides a valuable service and provides the public an opportunity to see animals rescued - many from deplorable places and in bad physical shape. A new vet clinic has just been completed and works are in the making for a new welcome building which will be an improvement.

Hi, Lovetobeonthego! Thank you so much for your visit and informative review. Our interns work hard from daylight to dark caring for the animals, and our staff is always surprised by how quickly they're able to find time to learn the required information about each one. It truly speaks to how much they love each of our animal residents.

We, too, are excited about our new welcome building. It will provide us with the opportunity to educate the public about our animals, as well as wildlife and conservation in general, on a deeper level.

We hope you'll come back to visit soon!
