We were recommended this restaurant by the tourist office upon our arrival, and it turned out to be a real treat. Already the first sight revealed that this place is made up of quality, and the impression stuck through the entire visit. Considering the overall price level is the same as other restaurants in the area, money spent here are money well spent. The service was excellent, and the waitor spoke english fluently. The menu was also of the most interesting sort, and it took long time before we decided what to eat. This, however, I take as a good sign only.
The food was also delicious, and combined with the surroundings, the interior and the sunset, we really got the good summer feeling from Hanko at this restaurant.
The only point of improvement would be to have menus in English, as Finnish remains a mystery to us. The waitor was however helpful on explaining to us.
The restaurant has the best location in town. It's in Itämeren Portti and the windows open up to a view of open sea. We had champagne and a taste appetiser with flavours of the archipelago. The dish was for one, but had enough for two as a starter.
For the main course one of us had the captain's burger and the other a small chantarelle soup and lamb tartar (both from the starters menu). We enjoyed a spanish red wine which complemented the food well.
For dessert we hade ice cream.
The whole thing costed 104€, which is quite reasonable for a three course meal with drinks.
We came to Hangon portti for strawberry margaritas - not available. Next we wanted to try mohitos - not available.
Service was excellent and bartender saved the day - but still missed the favourite drinks.
