“Wow, add this to your bucket list!”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

Visiting a Dude Ranch was on our bucket list, but I was concerned that our two teenage daughters were a bit 'beyond' the Dude Ranch experience. Not so! Flying E is an impeccable, quaint, cozy lodge surrounded by beautiful desert terrain. The staff are wonderful, friendly, and willing to make your stay perfect. We donned out cowboy boots and hats and headed to the barn to saddle up. Wrangler Jane took us out, on the first ride you must walk the trails. The other rides were loads of fun too however we were hoping to lope our horses more and that never happened, a true disappointment for our daughters. The food was great, nice variation, great flavor, and sooo easy not to anguish over a menu. Even the teenagers loved the meals. Breakfast is cooked to order and not to be missed. The cookie jar is always full! There is a small pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, tennis, ping pong and foosball. We squared danced one night in the barn and everyone had a ball. When is the last time you square danced? The other families were great and it was nice to chat with other folks from different areas. You must treat yourself to the Flying E! Andy and Steve who manage the facility are the kindest, most caring hosts one will ever find. Andy puts her heart into this operation every moment of every day and it shows. There is a grand piano in the lodge and it's fun to relax while some guest plays. I am not easily impressed, add this to your bucket list! You will be glad you did.

We spent six days at the Flying E for our spring break. We had a fantastic time and so enjoyed the ranch and the wonderful team of people on staff. Everyone was friendly, smiles on their faces, and really went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable. We have two teen-ish girls who love to ride, and they got their fill of time in the saddle. Everyone has to take a simple ride out walking when they first get there, but the girls were loping in no time in the desert. Mom and Dad can ride too, there are gentle walks that were really fun. The decor is more on the "authentic" side and we liked that - too many resorts feel too "cookie cutter" these days and you can't tell where you are. Flying E offers a great sense of place and a history of dude ranching that makes great memories. We recommend it highly and hope to return!

We just returned from the Flying E Ranch where we visited for the first time. My husband and I took our two young daughters (8 and 10) and had an amazing time. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the meals abundant and food excellent and the horseback riding is fantastic. If you've not been to the Sonora Desert, it is a diverse and beautiful mountainous landscape with pretty sunsets and amazing stars at night. The managers and staff are all friendly, accommodating and work hard to ensure you have an excellent stay. Even if you have never ridden horses before - give it a try. You can choose to ride or not ride when you get there but I recommend trying it out. The guides are all superb and are great at pointing out interesting features along the ride. My youngest daughter cried when we left - we will be going again! Sandy, Columbus, Ohio

We experienced the Flying E Ranch back in May of 2005. Once you put on the hat and the boots, you are transformed into another time and place. Dare I say a good time and a good place with good people and a grand staff. Three of the four of us were reluctant to go and they gave me plenty of reasons why they didn't want to go. We're too old for this stuff; I don't know how to ride a horse; We have eat family style with strangers and my favorite, after riding a horse what else is there to do? One of the great things about being right is watching the nay Sayers eating crow. We loved the entire experience and wish we'd have a few more days. After all the years that have passed, we still bring up the stories and memories that were made there. And a lot of those memories were because of the staff. If you are on the fence about going to a dude ranch, because you saw City Slickers and don't what to meet up with Curly, get off the fence now and book your stay at the Flying E right now. You'll never be the same again ... and I mean that in a good way. Giddy up you Cowboys and Cowgirls

This is the best family vacation we keep on taking! The other reviewers are spot on in their description of the food, hospitality, fun, cleanliness, peacefulness, staff, horses, wranglers. As a mom who worries about safety I can tell you it has been life altering to vacation where your child can have the freedom to explore, play and meet friends in a safe way. We started coming when our daughter was 7 and it just gets better every year. Life slows down so you can enjoy every minute. Steve and Andy (and the whole staff) make you feel like they have been waiting all year for you to come and enjoy yourself. It is all about time together, going back to a simpler way of life and it is fun! This is our 8th year, and we have come by ourselves or for a family reunion at Christmas and each time the staff morphs to meet everyone’s needs and activities. It is such a great experience we can’t recommend it highly enough!

Room Tip: Adjoining rooms have a kitchenette in between, gives parents privacy from kids.
