Bella Vista Lodge

From the moment we crossed the river in our 4-wheel, to our 1 1/2-mile ride up the rocky mountain road, we knew we were in for an adventure! When we arrived, it was informal, and laid back. No paper work to fill out, or credit cards to leave on file. Bert, Bella Vista's chief, cook, and bottle washer was great. He surprised us with his culinary creations every day.

Here you can unplug, relax, and take in the magnificent vista from your room or the deck of the lodge. What an outstanding 3-day visit! We wished we could have stayed longer. Our kids (15 and 13) loved this place, and enjoyed meeting the other adventurers who seemed to pop in and out on a daily basis. Bert set us up with a horse back adventure that we will never forget. We look forward to seeing Bella Vista again.

I had the good fortune of spending an entire month at Bella Vista Lodge in Dominical. If you want a genuine travel experience of one the most beautiful parts of Costa Rica, Bella Vista is the place to stay! I'm doing the whole location independent internet entrepreneur thing and Bella Vista provided a balanced environment where I could focus on getting work done in addition to meeting a lot of new friends who came through the lodge.

If you surf(or would like to learn) Bert's friends know the local surfing spots intimately.

Room Tip: Bella Vista has some awesome hammocks to hang out in and while away an afternoon. So bring your kind...

Staying with Bert at Bella Vista Lodge is the ultimate "real Costa Rica experience"! It's exactly what Costa Rica represents for me. A rustic, beautiful peaceful setting with amazing views and sunsets, great food and very nice people. Bert is the best, always smiling and happy and a very talented chef. Always a breeze, so air conditioning is not needed. I highly recommend the cabins down the hill from the main lodge. very private! Wonderful place and experience, will stay there again!!

Room Tip: The two cabins below the main lodge are perfect!

We spent our 30th wedding anniversary at the lodge and had a wonderful time. The lodge was rustic and was exactly what we like. It sits on the side of the mountain overlooking the Pacific Ocean and even though we were there during the hottest time of the year we were comfortable most of the time. The beds were comfortable and the weather at night was perfect and I slept like a rock the entire time I was there. Bert was the ultimate host and made our time there so pleasurable. The views where phenomenal and the food that Chef Bert put together were amazing. The view from our cabin’s porch was breathtaking and sitting down for breakfast every morning with that view was amazing. What made the trip even more memorable was meeting and interacting with the other guests and many of the locals. We all got along and did things together like horse back riding and zip lining and even went to dinner and music at a local restaurant together. The horse back tour was great and included a breakfast and lunch and visited to the breathtaking Nauyaca falls.

Bert Thanks for a wonderful trip and we will defiantly be back….

Make sure if you get a rental car that you get 4 wheel drive as he is not kidding about needing it and also make sure you NEVER leave anything in the rental car when it is unattended.

Room Tip: The cabins were great, they are located away from the main lodge and gave more privacy and the view...

By far the best place we stayed - so unique. We stayed in the cabin, with balcony, hammock and stunning all round views of the sea seen even when lying in bed! The view was stunning, with the lodge set on the hillside above Dominical. Bert the American owner went out of his way while we stayed there, picking us up from Dominical as we didn't have a 4x4 and even dropping us off in Uvita when we left. Although we had our own cooking facilities with our room we were very glad not to use them- Bert made delicious evening meals and breakfasts, (not to mention the rum cocktails) that we ate on the balcony of the lodge over looking the hillside and sea. He also organised for us to go on a horse riding tour with Woody which was a great day, riding along the ridge and visiting the waterfalls. Delicious food on the tour too!
Certainly somewhere we won't forget!

Room Tip: Staying in the cabin is worth it! Amazing room
