We went to Supai June 20 -22. The Havasupai Tribal web site is useful for planning a trip here. However, here is some info that was not included.
- Friday morning the cafe was closed because the manager quit. He came back and it opened around noon. In addtion to the cafe, there is a microwave at the General Store. Also a house south of the school sells ice cream and microwave food. Another local sells dinners out of her house 5 pm until it's gone. We saw her flyers posted at the Lodge and the General Store.
- Friday is pay day, so Tribal members want to fly out and they get first priority on the helicopter. My husband was in line at 5:30 am to get on the tourist list to fly out, so we were second on that list. I reached the trail head at 1:30 pm. I think the helicopter carries 5 people per trip. The flight was maybe 5 minutes (better than the 6 hours it took us to hike down.)
- Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters offers a Havasupai Heli-hiking Day Tour where they fly you in and then fly you out 7 hours later (no waiting). The cost is currently $465 per adult.
Please remember this is a hot, remote area. Hiking (especially out) can be dangerous if you do not start early and bring lots of water.
The falls are stunning. The pictures do not show the beautiful color of the water. The village is a unique experience. I would recommend going here at least once.
