Our party stayed in the two marvelous rooms at Lazy Dog Ranch with our dogs and loved it. Michael and Cath are terrific with incredibly interesting stories, and from Michael one can learn alot about what goes on near the border areas in this state. He is a font of knowledge and also very entertaining. The breakfasts were super and the rooms delightful, big and roomy. The property is gated/fenced, so the dogs could run loose with the Lazy Dog dogs, who all had great dispositions. The San Pedro River runs along the back, and it was fun to watch the dogs retrieve sticks thrown into the river. It was a great place to stay for exploring the south of Arizona, right in the middle of everything, but wonderfully rural. We took trips to Bisbee, Tombstone, Coronado National Memorial, Fort Huachuca, and found that a 3-night stay was just right for doing so. Now we wish we would have stayed the whole week because there are certainly many other things to do around this area. We could not have chosen a better place to stay from an all-around standpoint, but the best of all were the hosts -- and that's the key to a great B & B.
Michael & Cath, please don't move for a long time to come! You are real people persons, and you make wonderful B & B hosts! We'll be back! **Michael was right: the dogs "sorted it out."

Meeting Michael and Cathy, you can immediately see why they own a B&B. They are both so personable and welcoming. Of course, our first welcome was from all the dogs, and my daughter was very happy with all her furry companions. Michael kindly let her help feed the horse, donkey, mule, and goat. We all enjoyed swinging down by the river and exploring the riparian area. We laughed over breakfast (with homemade baked goods, generously adapted by Cathy for our dairy-free needs), and appreciated having a kitchenette for other meals. It was a quiet, peaceful spot, but not far from restaurants or grocery stores. All the eclectic art is fabulous -- I enjoyed walking around and looking at all the pieces tucked around the property. We like staying at places with a soul, and this is clearly one that does!

Not only do Michael and Cathy make you feel very welcome, so do the dogs, horse, mule, mini-goat and donkey. Marguerite (the donkey) greeted me one day when we came in and snuggled up to me like my dogs! I'm pleased to have gotten to know these folks who have rescued these animals and provided them a home and I'm pleased they share their home with us.

Room Tip: We loved the darkness and the quiet.

Anyone who travels with a dog and stays at a big motel chain knows what I'm about to say. We check-in and roll our eyes at the $10-$25 extra charge for your dog even though most of us have travel companions that are better behaved than some of the kids. (I will admit, there are exceptions in both cases!)

We grin and bare the extra fees because our dogs are part of the family, so what else are we going to do.

However, if you are planning to visit Sierra Vista, Tombstone, Brisbee, Hauchuca City or the Kartchner Caves, then you owe it to yourself and your four legged family member to stay at the Lazy Dog Ranch B&B. The $10 charge for your pet will be the best value you and your pet will ever enjoy.

The Lazy Dog Ranch is little out of the way, but that adds to its charm. Use the directions in their Website and you can't go wrong.

Shortly before being welcomed by Cathy and / or Michael, at least a couple of the 5 resident 'ambassador' dogs will greet you. In about 5 seconds or less, they start looking for your four legged family member to welcome to their pack. To be honest, it could be a bit overwhelming for your dog, but as most experienced 'dog people' know, leave them alone and they will sort out the welcoming rituals themselves.

Our dog is very timid by nature but it wasn't long before she understood the pecking order and was soon running with the pack within the 2 acre fenced-in property.

The Ranch is situated along the San Pedro River and you will enjoy the solitude, the bird migrations and especially the night sky while sitting around a camp fire.

A horse, a mule, a donkey, two house cats and a goat, round out the menagerie. So if you have dander allergies, (then I don't know why you are still reading this), stay at a motel chain.

The rooms are well appointed with an eclectic collection of Southwest artifacts. But don't look for a clock radio or television, that would spoil the experience.

The rooms are comfortable with your own private bathroom and main entrance. Breakfast is wonderful and Cathy ensures there is something for every taste.

Cathy and Michael quickly become your friends over a morning coffee and offer many travel tips that only the 'locals' would know.

Overall, you will enjoy the experience and start making plans to come back, and your dog will love the experience of 'being a dog!'

We (me, my husband and our recent college grad daughter) spent four nights over Memorial Day weekend in the cozy Casa at the Lazy Dog Ranch. Cathy and Mike McCormack's B&B turned out to be the perfect home base while visiting our son, who is in AIT at Fort Huachuca and feeling quite "dog deprived". We spirited him away from the Fort each morning and headed back to LDR for breakfast and a romp with the dogs before heading out for the day. The older dogs, Mack, Zorra and Thor and the not-so-lazy pups, Quinn and Porter, were a highlight of our visit… cute, well behaved and so much fun! Cathy and Mike were friendly, chatty and very helpful… whether for ideas of where to eat and what to do or in offering the use of their land line to our daughter for a long-distance job interview (cell phone service at LDR is spotty). Breakfast was top notch and always featured a freshly baked treat or two ... banana breads, blueberry cake, coffee cake, muffins, scones and eggs/sausage baked into a pastry shell... along with freshly brewed coffee and squeezed juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, cottage cheese and cereals. We left the table each morning well fueled and leaving no doubt in Cathy's mind that we enjoyed her culinary efforts! Our adventures included two long hikes along the San Pedro River (which runs right through the property and is lined by tall cottonwoods), hikes through Ramsey Canyon Preserve and to the top of Coronado National Memorial, a trip to Bisbee and trip to Tucson for a U of AZ baseball game and lunch with old friends. One cool thing we noticed was the scenery driving in and out of Lazy Dog Ranch... it was always beautiful, but also always different, depending on how the light hit the mountains. We didn’t get to enjoy the sunken fire pit this time, due to a fire ban… but we’ll be back! Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
