This was only our 2nd or 3rd visit to a B&B. We feel sorry for the owners of the next one we stay in unless it is the Penrose again. They will have a very tough act to follow. The property was superb. New, well decorated, comfortable, inviting & with the most outstanding view of the red mountains of Sedona quite literally in the back yard. Our hosts, the Popes, had our rooms ready and efficiently showed us around pointing out all of the essential parts of the property. We spent 3 nights and left feeling ready to book a return visit. Breakfast was on a deck in the bright sunshine with the mountains as a back drop. The food was interesting and varied. They even left a tray of late evening snacks in the dining area to satisfy that little empty spot in your tummy. The Pope’s volunteered to take some pictures of our group. Then as we were checking out they handed us several color copies of the pictures and a “Penrose” t-shirt. We were overwhelmed. The rooms are all fairly equal although ours, the Kokopelli, had the added feature of a Jacuzzi tub. This place is a must if you are staying in Sedona.

Room Tip: They are all nice but we really liked Kokopelli.

It's been a few years since we visited and the Penrose is still an outstanding B&B. Christie and Whitney make you feel right at home. We stayed in the suite (Kokopelli and Javelina combined) with friends. The red rock views are great! Breakfast each day, prepared by Patty and served by Beverly, was excellent. Great strawberry smoothies! Whatever you need is only a question away. Everyone is very helpful. Whitney can provide some very good "local knowledge" on the trails for hiking. Oh, the night time snacks are not to be missed - especially the lemon squares!!!

Room Tip: Kokopelli and Javelina - "The Suite", if you are traveling as 2 couples or a party of 4. If just 2, opt for Kokopelli or Javelina. Both have the best views of the landscape.

Yesterday we woke up to large snowflakes and low to no visibility of the gorgeous red rocks that are normally visible from the bathroom and all bedroom windows of the Yavapai room at the Penrose B&B. It was stunningly different from the sunny and warm days before, but made for some lovely pictures! Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The bed was comfy and had lovely white linens. The only real complaint was that the shower was tiny and the bathroom had no counter space, but there was adequate storage for makeup bags, etc. next to the pedestal sink. We loved the well-stocked mini fridge in the breakfast area with water and an assortment of juices and beverages as well as snacks. Whitney & Christie had all kinds of little extra special touches to make our stay confortable and memorable. And Whitney is THE man to talk to when planning any kind of hike. He did not steer us wrong there or in restaurant choices either. I found my new favorite restaurant, Cucina Rustica, best meal I ever had! This was our first experience staying at a B&B, but probably NOT the last! The views were amazing! The staff was accomodating and cheerful. The house was very clean and inviting. The breakfasts were good too; savory one day, sweet the next. You won't go wrong choosing the Penrose as your go-to place in the Sedona area!

Room Tip: Yavapai is downstairs, has fabulous views of the red rocks and has it's own patio area. We didn't see any of the other rooms.

Just as good as it look like online! Perfect location - an unobstructed view of the Red Rock. Room layout was amazing to enjoy the view. Food was terrific, but the hosts Whitney and Christie were even better! Can say enough, great experience. Made you feel at home. Spent 2 nights, would stay there again! Traveled Jan 2011, but the website would only let me choose April as the latest date.....

We had the extraordinary pleasure of spending two nights there in mid-Feb. Penrose is one of the all-time best B&B's we've stayed at in our worldwide travels. Arriving well after dark and never have been to Sedona we had no idea what we'd wake up to. Incredible location - the pictures (of the views and rooms) on their website are true to life but nothing like the real thing. We saw all but one of the rooms (it was occupied) and can say they are all great. Comfort and views from all are unsurpassed. Making a room decision was tough at 8:30pm and we finally picked Yavapai. Discriminating factor- we didn't have to carry luggage up the stairs (which really wouldn't have been a problem). Breakfasts and the views from the breakfast room rivaled one another for top spot. Eat on the deck if weather permits. Just lounge on the deck if nothing else. Just spend time there and relax in all the relaxing spots around the house. Christie and Whitney are exceptional hosts. Whitney helped us with coming up with far more things to do on our one day in Sedona. None were a disappointment.

Only problem- finding them the first time in the dark. Local ordinance prohibits a sign easily seen at night. So, just go to the top of the road and look for the driveway lined by small lights. No problem after finding that landmark.

To top every thing off, they had three greatly appreciated surprises before we left that we've never encountered before. You just have to go there and experience it all for yourself. You will be thoroughly satisfied.

Room Tip: They are all exceptional; you can't go wrong. Some have a small porch at ground level others an elevated balcony. Too many good choices.
