“Surrounded by Red Buttes-Fantastic Vistas”
Reviewed 7 January 2012

We stayed two nights in the Mariposa Room. The only draw back I have to mention is that our room was very small. The queen size bed took up practically the whole room leaving very little space to move around.
We really liked the location of The Penrose even though it was not particularly close to anything we wanted to do. However, the Coconino National Forest is so beautiful we really didn't mind the 20 minute + drive to get to where we wanted to go. The setting for The Penrose is very quite, peaceful, and removed from the madness of downtown Sedona.
We've stayed at a fair amount of B&B's and my #1 criteria for rating a B&B is the quality of the breakfast. The Penrose gets 5-STARS! It was unique (something I wouldn't fix myself), delicious, attractively presented, and truly gourmet. The patio setting, at the foot of the red buttes, was inspiring. You would never guess you were in a residential neighborhood. We were delightfully entertained by desert squirrels, red birds, and lizards.
Another nice surprise--the proprietor offered to take a commemorative photograph of us against the beautiful back drop of Bell Rock. He edited it and printed it on photo paper while we checked out. Oh, and you also get to pick a souvenir T-Shirt.
We will come back again only next time we will opt for a larger room.

Room Tip: Mariposa Room too small.

This is one of the most charming and perfect B & Bs you will ever find! We stayed at The Penrose for five days in December, and although the weather was not great, the inn was fabulous! Whitney and Christie are warm and caring inn-keepers who made our stay all the more perfect with the special care to food and excellent advice regarding hiking trails.
The Coconino room and it's amazing red rock views from three (!!!!) sides was beautiful, with crisp white linens and warm wooden floors.
We had a wonderful time and would certainly love to return to The Penrose if we get a chance to travel this way again!

Room Tip: Coconino overlooks the entry, but it has the best views and noise was never an issue! Loved it!

We stayed at THE PENROSE B&B in Sedona this April. You couldn't ask more from a B&B. Our room was beautiful and tastefully decorated in dark wood and white chairs and linens. We had a magnificent view of Bell Rock -- one of the awesome red rocks in the area. We ate on their outdoor patio for breakfasts, which were tasty, one day sweet and the next savoury. Because I am a diabetic, they made eggs for me on the sweet day and went out of their way to meet my dietary needs. Our waitress was charming and helpful and we felt at home. Each room has a folder outlining activities in the area as well as restaurants listed by category. There were recommendations and reviews from former guests. Menu's were available in the stunning living room. The owner took photos of us with his tripod and printed a large one of our choice, as well as emailing us the others. In the breakfast room is a fridge loaded with juice, bottled water, sports drinks. They also have coffee and tea available, as well as microwave popcorn -- all at no extra cost. Each night there were lemon or chocolate goodies as a night time snack. CDs and DVDs are available to guests. We were given our choice of souvenir tee-shirts when we left. Our hosts are retired academics, charming and interesting people -- eager to make our stay as wonderful as possible. Best of all, plenty of light for reading in bed. Can you think of anything better?

Room Tip: Check out the website and look at the pictures. Some rooms are larger than others. Ours had a wonder...

WOW! From the moment I stepped foot into The Penrose my jaw hit the floor! I'm a pianist and the 1st thing I saw was a beautiful grand piano. I was greeted in a warm very welcoming manner and the breakfasts were too die for! I am definitely going back next year and I plan on staying longer. I left with goodies and with a happy feeling knowing I made the right decision by staying at The Penrose.

Room Tip: they all have gr8 views though the yavapai room is downsatirs and offers more privacy from the other...

My husband and I recently stayed at The Penrose for 4 nights and loved every minute of it.
Whitney and his staff were very attentive and resourseful in helping with our stay. The Penrose is an extremely comfortable and well maintained B&B. It's spotless! The breakfasts were creative and delicious. We can't wait to return to enjoy The Penrose and its breathtaking views.
This was an extremely positive experience.
