We were referred to this property by trusted friends who had been returning to this charming little resort for over 30 years. After staying for a couple of nights I understand their loyalty. Fancy this is not, but wonderfully serene, clean, and picturesque it most certainly is in spades. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was included, and was absolutely fabulous. Granted we obtained a great rate due to the time of year (end of summer), but their restaurant exceeded all expectations. We had breakfast and dinner included, and all I can say is WOW for the price. I realize the price goes up dramatically in season and what we paid approximately $400.00 would be in the $700-$1,000.00 range in season. It would be worth it in my opinion. We had pan seared wild Alaskan halibut with a tomato fennel ragout, and lemon cous- cous along with wilted kale and yellow peppers. Everything cooked superbly. The appetizer that night was a dilled carrot soup ( a bit heavy on the dill) and dessert was a mildly disappointing orange chiffon cake with fruit, (the cake was on the dry side, but tasty). Our next night consisted of black eyed pea and corn soup (ho-hum). The osso buco entrée was delicious. It was braised in Madiera and apples from their own orchards. It was accompanied by a herbed polenta and broccoli with red peppers. To finish a white chocolate bread pudding with a bourbon pecan caramel. WOW! I, however, do love bread pudding due to my 20 years in Louisiana. The wine list was simple, and a bit over priced. Yet I was able to find a suitable complement for our dinners. Not perfect, but then again it is northern Arizona, and the entire idea is to relax and unwind. Mission accomplished. I will be booking at Garland's again and highly recommend it to my friends.
