So I met up with one of my best friends while I was staying at the Hyatt. We took off walking, looking for a restaurant to grab a snack and sit out of the heat for a business conference call she had to take at 11 a.m. Nothing was open, nothing was open, and then we see DJ's has lights on. Well in we go and to our delight it turned out to be one of our best "spots" for the couple days I was in Scottsdale.
This is not a chic Scottsdale venue, the furniture is dated and the atmosphere casually worn but clean. High end appointments aside, it ended up being our favorite spot of the trip. Our bartender mixed us up a special version of a mimosa which was a pleasant surprise. He chatted in such a friendly manner we felt like regulars within minutes. He even turned the volume down on the music so that my friend could take her conference call. We liked it so much we stayed for lunch, which was good. You could tell that regulars were coming and going from the bar for lunch and each was warmly greeted, kind of like a down scale Cheers. When we left we received a friendly good bye and we were encouraged to come back soon.
A couple days later, near the end of the trip, we were looking for a place to watch the Belmont. We checked in on a couple bars and no tv's or the ones with tv's were packed solid. Then DJ's pops into mind so we drove across Scottsdale, found a parking spot, and walked in. The bar was full with only one seat available. Our bartender from a couple days before spots us, comes out from around the bar, grabs a stool from the back, asks a couple people to make room, and low and behold we have a spot in front of the tv for the race. He even remembered our drink orders! Next time I go to Scottsdale I will definitely stop back in. While it wasn't as "classy" an atmosphere as some of my other stops in Scottsdale it was by far the best service and the friendliest place.
