We had a wonderful evening at the American Kitchen. We are vegan and we found several options on the menu that we could eat. (That is not always the case). The food was very good and the service was exceptional. We look forward to returning to the American Grill on our next visit to Phoenix.

There's no doubt about the quality of this dinning experience; it's top-notch! Fine dining for sure, and given that we were heading for the opera, we were dressed for the occasion. The name doesn't really tell you much, outside of being a wine bar (which doesn't really fit either). Chef Marchetti focuses on regional fair and American ingredients. So what does that mean? The entrees have a Southwestern spin, but don't worry, this isn't just another "Mexican" restaurant. We focused on the appetizers, but of course the rest of the menu looked equally enticing. We had the LOCAL CITRUS + CHILE SPIKED HUMMUS (spiky lime infused hummus), DEVILS ON HORSEBACK (bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese), and POPCORN SHRIMP (served with cilantro-lime sauce and cotija cheese). All were succulent! All the wines are Californian, beers are local craft as are the spirits. And while the food, service and atmosphere were all wonderful, they all came with a hefty price tag. The aforementioned appetizers and one virgin cocktail set us back $75 with tip. And while there were more economic choices, I doubt two people with drinks could have made it out for much less.

Our server was very friendly and helpful, which is the reason for the 4th star. Otherwise it was a pretty typical hotel breakfast buffet. The price is steep, but when compared to the price for just an entree, you might as well pony up a few dollars more for the options available to you. Cooked-to-order eggs were done well, and the fresh-squeezed OJ was good even though I'm not a fan of pulpy juice.

Had everything except custom made omelette’s and waffles. Food was hot and tasty. Bacon was crisp. Service was excellent. This restaurant is in the Sheridan Hotel where they also have a free candy buffet in the lobby. Hard not to take advantage of that!

The food and service was good but having just reviewed my receipt I see that I paid a very large service - very annoying
