This place had apparently fallen onto some hard times in the past few years, and remade itself in December 2003. The place is very nice but know what you are getting into! RESTAURANTS are outrageously priced...a $29.99 dinner buffet that was like something you could find basically at a Golden Corral (example: macaroni and cheese on the buffet!!! Good lord..for $30?!?!) Bar menu is okay and more reasonable, still not cheap. Breakfast equally outrageous...2 eggs bacon for $15.00 coffee and juice extra...they have a breakfast buffet which they want you to buy for $18.00 per person which is why the menu is so outragous. ROOMS-This place is laid out like a retirement condo complex. All low rise, one story rooms (or casitas) that are VERY nice some with private pools. BE WARNED..this place is like a maze to drive through through, and you may be FAR AWAY from the bar/rest. etc. So far in fact, they will take you in a golf cart from restaurant back to your room. If you have walking problems ask to stay close to the lobby area. Rooms themselves were beautiful. Very very nice. I would stay again...CHECK PRICELINE. I got the room for $50. At $50 (as opposed to the posted prices of $300 to $400) it is all good.

I think there are many people on this site that write reviews about their competition to discourage people from picking another hotel. The JW Marriott Camelback resort is first rate all the way. I put on a meeting for my company at this hotel, and it was amazing. The best meeting we have ever had in my opinion. The casitas which are the regular rooms are large, beautiful and all have their own patios, the bathrooms were large, well appointed and very clean. The meeting rooms were beautiful and the staff was incredible. The staff were all so easy to work with and jumped every time we called them for anything. They even have golf carts that you can call at any time to come and pick you up and take you around the resort so you don't have to walk if you don't want to. The food was excellent, we had meals at every restaurant, two dinners for 135 people put on at the hotel and the food, service and presentation were exceptional. The grounds are superb. Don't let anyone sell this hotel short, it is one of the nicest I have stayed in, and I have stayed in many of the nice hotels in the United States, ie the Plaza in New York, the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, the Ritz Carlton in Kansas city, the Bernardo Lodge in Carmel Valley, even in the penthouse on a cruise ship, just to name a few... This hotel surpassed them all. The spa was awesome also, as was the destination management company. We had a great time and there were no problems at all, almost unheard of when putting on a corporate meeting.

I stayed here at the end of July for two nights with my kids and my sister and her kids (two rooms). We booked through Priceline and got even better rates than the what the previous reviewer got. At first we were assigned rooms that were away from the main Jack Rabbit pool so I asked that it be changed. No problems at all.
The occupancy at the resort seemed to be very, very light. The housekeeper told me that her hours had been cut recently to four days a week.
The rooms were large and airy with a ceiling fan and open beams. The furnishings were in the southwest desert motif that you would expect and done very well. Also, the property was landscaped beautifully throughout.
A small issue we had was that the Starbucks coffee in the room was expired. There were two bags, one expired in Janurary and the other in June. Housekeeping brought up two replacement bags and two extra ones right away so I didn't have to pay $4.50 to use one.
We ate at Ritas Mexican restaurant on the property. The portions were small and the food took a long time to arrive but the taste was fine. We were too lazy to go out but if you have the inclination, I would suggest you go down to Old Scottsdale and eat instead.
Our kids enjoyed the pool but if you have to make a choice, I would suggest you take the kids to the Desert Ridge Resort instead. The pool at Camelback is just ordinary by resort standards and provides nothing special. Desert Ridge by constrast has many good sized pools, a slide, and the lazy river tube ride.
