Herradura Hotel Suites
Ranked #7 of 21 Hotels in Neuquen
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 2 January 2012

My wife and I spent two nights in Herradura Hotel Suites on our way to Patagonia. In fact, it is a motel rather than an hotel conveniently located along highway 22 in Plottier (not Neuquen) west of the city. It is a clean place with modern design and decoration. We had suite #16 (see comment hereunder) which was away from reception. With closed windows, we were not disturbed by the heavy traffic on the nearby highway. Air conditioning was quiet and functioning well. Breakfast was served on time but without any trace of human relationship. Large and comfortable bed. Mini-bar with a very limited choice of drinks. Working wi-fi. No swimming pool. Efficient reception clerks, We did not encounter any fly or spider in the room (see review by Tobias L).

We estimate that the room we had did not deserve the qualification of a "suite": a suite should at least offer a sitting place, a sofa or a comparable convenience as well as a table. Both of us had to share a single chair and I had to remove the TV set from the very small desk in order to make space available for my computer. In other words, Herradura Hotel Suites is fine for a stopover but do not expect to be able to work comfortably there: its name appears somewhat inflated and prices overrated.

My wife and I stayed in a classic double room (nr.2) for just over 100 USD/night. We arrived fairly late from Bariloche (21h), after the receptionist found our booking (which took some time) he showed us the room. The rooms are attached to the main building in an "US Motel-style" so that you can access them from outside. The entrance doors are facing the 4 lane hightway (ca. 50-60m away), which makes you feel that the trucks are running through your room. Due to the "smart" lights outside, huge swarms of flies were expecting us upon arrival, but only a few made it into our room. Apparently some guests before us were experiencing the same issue as the marks on the walls indicated. That was not all, some spiders felt homely in the bathroom probably it was easy to access through the not properly closing bathroomwindow. The bed was clean, the TV working.
We were told that the breakfast would start at 7am which suited us fine, as our flight was leaving early. We arrived 5 minutes past 7, there was no breakfast, just a bowl of fruit salad from canned fruits. The guy came apparently late to work and step by step put the stuff out. When we left at 20 past 7, he was still busy, no bread was out...
The only positives were the proximity to airport (but there are other hotels too) and the friendly receptionist in the morning, who was checking whether our flight was going and on time.

Such a beautiful, modern and original hotel, definitely one of a kind. Not the best location obviously because whoever does stay in Neuquen either works in petrol or is stopping for a break at a stopover hotel to get to Bariloche. Rooms are clean and bed is HUGE. Breakfast is simple but sufficient. Staff is really kind and helpful! I would definitely recommend this hotel!!

Room Tip: Regular rooms are actually better than the suites.
