We had a great stay at Coloria. Fantastic location, 5mins walk from the central plaza. We changed the date of our stay at short notice so that we could spend a night at cafayate and they had no problem with this and even helped us hire a car to take. The staff were really friendly and breakfasts were great. We would highly recommend this hostel.

What we liked: The hostel is well located (very central), the common areas are nice, and wifi worked all around the hostel. And we were allowed late check out on our last day as I was ill. The girl at reception that day was nice.

What we didn't like:

We booked the private double with the shared bathroom though which was terrible. The room is too small to qualify as a double. The bed is tiny, there is no space to walk, and the only window looks out to the common area which means that you basically have to keep it closed at all times. Very claustrophobic.

I sent three emails about a taxi pickup from the airport. No reply. And the staff didn't tell us that all the museums were closed for the two days we were there. If we knew, we would have booked a tour outside Salta instead.

Maybe the dorms are nicer but I definitely don't recommend the private double room.

Absolutely wonderful hostel. Big breakfasts. Nice little pool (pretty chilly in October though). Ping pong table. Well-equipped kitchen. Hot showers.

I stayed in three of the dorms in my time here, and all were comfortable. The four-person named Madera (all the rooms have different colours for names) probably offered the best night's sleep.

Single best thing about Coloria is the staff – all friendly and capable. Only one lady who doesn't speak English, but she did her best to teach me Castellano.

Super close to the main square of town, plus only 15 minutes from Balcarce, the nightlife area. A corner store one block away has basic cooking stuff, and there is a big, European-style supermarket with a carniceria only 5 blocks away too. Go left out of the hostel three blocks until you hit Avenida Mitre, then turn right and walk 2/3 more blocks.

Room Tip: Madera, one of two four-man dorms, is the quietest.

We had a not so pleasant stay at Coloria Hostel. We booked the room a week in advance. When we arrived, the only room that was available was a very small room (double bed) directly attached to the common area. The room had no ventilation, except for a window that led to the common area. It was noisy, warm and cramped. Maybe the dorm rooms are better than the private rooms with shared bathroom.
Besides our distaste for the room, the place had 3 showers, all with toilet and one separate toilet (without shower). For a fully booked hostel that is not a lot, so in the morning you had to wait for a shower or toilet.
The lady behind the desk did not speak English and seemed not willing to try to help us. Our Spanish is not to good, but this was the first time we had the idea that we could not communicate at all. When we asked which bus to take to the airport, she did not help us at all. She send us to a wrong direction and didn't tell us we needed coins for the bus ticket.
The pool was dirty and nobody used it.
This was the most expensive place we have been to so far (but Argentina is more expensive than Peru and Bolivia), definitely not worth the price.

We looked around several hostels in Salta and this was the cleanest, brightest and friendliest that we found. There was a lovely large and bright open communal area which looked out over the garden and the breakfast was pretty good too. Our private double room was in the basement so we didn't have a window - the rooms upstairs were brighter although a little more expensive. The wifi was very poor but this may have been due to the receptionist constantly watching Youtube videos! When she was off duty, all the guests were able to connect no problem!
