We took the a walking tour of the cemetery with “free walking tours”. The cemetery has so much history! We spent several hours walking around the many tombs. I would strongly recommend this cemetery!

I have now visited this cemetery twice, and each time I get lost. There are monuments to many of the great and wealthy of the history of Argentina, and a never-ending array of different designs. Of course the main draw is the tomb of Eva Peron, unassuming compared to many of the others, but elegant in its black marble.

Most famous for being the site of the grave of Eva Peron. We visited with a guide which made for a fascinating tour. It is reputedly contains the greatest (and most eclectic) collection of marble statuary art and stained glass throughout the many tombs. It makes for a fascinating historical visit, A guide or guidebook is a must.

After visiting Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, I thought this wouldn’t compare. I was wrong. This cemetery is a work of art. It is inspiring, clean, and every tomb has intricate designs that reflect the love that the living had for their departed. I highly recommend visiting early morning, when most tourists are sleeping. :-)

The cemetery is a piece of art itself. Totally worth a quick stop if you are visiting Buenos Aires. Being located in the Recoleta neighborhoods, you can find cafes and entertainment around the place.
