This place is an experience from the minute that you hit the lobby. Palatial is probably selling this hotel short. It is in a great location, walking distance to Florida St (where you can shop your hearts content) Recoleta is at the end of the street, as is a great park that has a fabulous Sunday market. At the end of the street (park end), turn left there is a range of cafes including a great Brew House.
From the fantastic beds, to the size of the rooms and the bathrooms, there is little to fault here. The staff are prompt, friendly and go out of their way to assist with your stay. The concierge were particularly helpful. There is nothing that has not been said already about this hotel.
My only, less than overwhelming positive thought, is around the butler service for each floor. I only saw them at their desk once and they offered nothing to increase the comfort of my stay- there was no proactive engagement on their behalf. I have been lucky enough to stay in other hotels with the same advertised service and they could teach the Alvear something in this regard.
I would suggest that the hotel either improve this service or remove it from promotional material.
As noted, the only less than perfect observation.

Room Tip: They all appear to be good

I stayed at the Alvear Palace for two nights in the beginning of April. Wow, what a wonderful hotel. We arrived via taxi from the airport. The bellman was busy assisting other guests at the time. However, quickly made a point of acknowledging our presence. Check in was fast and the front desk agent was very knowledgeable about the property and the surrounding area. Upon arriving at our room, the floor butler introduced herself. She provided us with a great overview of the rooms in addition, to sharing her favorite things to do in the city.

The room was extremly clean. Housekeeping serviced the room in a timely fashion during the entire length of our stay. The bathroom was large given the historic nature of the property. The only negative, was the carpet in the room was stained. Although minor, I did not expect this given the hotels price point. Turndown service was great. My laundry was pressed and returned in less than three hours and the complimentary shoe shine was a plus.

Overall, the concierge did an excellent job of recommending places to see and dine in the city. I would highly recommend dining one evening in The Puerto Madero area. Great places to eat, with lovely outdoor terraces.

Breakfast was included in our room rate and was certainly up to par. The seating area was beautiful and the service was in line with an old world luxury hotel.

If you are looking for a very special experience in Buenos Aires, look no further than the Alvear Palace Hotel.

Room Tip: -Request a corner room and high floor if possible.

We recently stayed eight nights at the Alvear Palace Hotel. Last week of March. My wife was attending the World Congress of Anesthesiologists. From the moment of arrival everything was superb. Diego the Bell Man and Claudio the Concierge immediately greeted our arrival. Check in was flawless and nicely upgraded to a lovely suite on the fifth floor. Our floor Butler that week in the evenings was Diego Porfido. He was superb. Pressed my suit jacket and my wife's evening dress. Every night Diego would do a turn down service and lay on the bed a small box of desserts plus two bottles of water would be placed next to our fruit bowl. Diego was simply superb. An enthusiasistic personality and always genuinely caring to our every need. During the day time our Butler was Luciana Flesler and again she was very attentive. A fresh fruit bowl would be replenished daily. Breakfast buffet was simply decadent and we would dine in the original section that looked like a glass house. The Spa/Jacuzzi/Fitness Center was again something to see. Gorgeous in a very nice setting and very peaceful. Claudio the Concierge booked a tour for us and made several very good recommendations for restaurants in the city.

The hotel was in a superb part of BsAs. Recoleta. It was a short walk to the Recoleta Cemetery and Recoleta Mall. There are many many restaurants in that area. Many have dining out doors. Saturday and Sunday treated us with a large Craft Market at the Recoleta Cemetery area. The stores around the area were all very high end. Montblanc, Louis Vuitton etc. We went for long walks in the neighbourhood and at all hours of the day or night and felt totally safe. Not too far away was a very large Carrefour grocery store that was totally complete for your every need. A short 10 min stroll to the left of the hotel would take you to the start of Avenue 9 de Julio in the area of the French and Brazil Consuls. The Buenos Aires Hop On Hop off Bus stop "La Biela" is very close to the hotel about five minutes to the right of the front door. We would taxi everywhere for anything within the city. Radio Taxis are plentiful and very cheap. Very easy to find.

An interesting tidbit... In all the hotel literature, there was always a description of a certain "Dress Code" that was implied or desired. Smart Casual. However, in reality, guests simply dressed the way they wanted to. In the Breakfast Buffet which I repeat was a truly elegant area, we saw everything from super elegantly dressed older folks to baseball hat, Nike Running top, Jogging Shorts and Running Shoes individuals all sitting nice and neatly beside each other at separate tables. In the "Public" areas the same. So, bottom line... dress the way you want.

All in all an excellent hotel. Truly elegant. A magnificent stay in a superb part of Buenos Aires. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return. Alvear Palace is everything it is supposed to be and more!

I cannot say enough great things about the Alvear Palace. We stayed there for 5 days (actually 2 nights stays twice and then one one night stay) and enjoyed every minute. It's not cheap but it was definitely worth the price for us as we used it as a home base for several trips - first to Uruguay and then to Patagonia. Both times the hotel graciously stored our luggage for several days with no issues or qualms whatsoever. Each time we checked back in (3 times) we were upgraded and given late check-outs, again, with no issue. They were beyond flexible with us and our travel and scheduling needs. The breakfast is sumptuous - a real buffet of the highest order. The servers and waitstaff are superb. Everything and everyone is completely focused on customer service and meeting your needs. The front desk and concierge are excellent. Everyone speaks fluent English. The hotel itself is beautiful - very old world charm but with all the modern amenities. We stayed in three different rooms - all very large and tastefully decorated. The room service menus and cafe menu are excellent. Everyone - from the delivery person from room service, to the bellman, to the restaurant waitstaff are excellent! The location of the hotel is perfect. It is in a quiet, safe and luxurious part of town. It deserves the reputation of one of the best - if not THE best - hotel in South America!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor. As far as I can tell, none of the rooms have a view as this is a crowded neigh...

This hotel is way out of my league...but it was a business conference. I couldn't fault it, from the butler service, to the bar and everything inbetween. My room was a standout, with views over BA, and every luxury I could imagine. I especially loved the Hermes Body Lotion, and the frsh fruit selection brought to my room each day.

The only disappointment was the pool, which is not an exercise pool, more a bobbing around one. They have retro-fitted an above ground pool on a lower floor, but it doesn't qualify as a serious pool, which I usually look for in a hotel. Not complaining though!

At checkin you get 2 things ironed complimentarily. (Tip: Don't bother with the expensive laundry prices. For the cost of less than 2 handkerchiefs, take a bag of laundry around the corner for same day washing service - exit right from hotel, turn right at street hotel is on corner of, walk down 2 blocks. Laundry is on right)

Breakfast was fine, although surprising there was not a fresh, on-demand cooking counter as most 5 star hotels have now - for a fresh omelet for example. The hot selections were very disappointing. Fruit selection was good, and for all the fat-cats, a huge array of pastries and breads!

The location is other-worldly - definitely upper class BA! It does give a very insulated view of the city if you stick to this area, so do get out and about!

As a hotel I just couldn't fault it. Everything worked seamlessly.
