“Fantastic Hotel & Staff, Location A Little Less So”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

We recently stayed at the Fierro, staying both in the Superior Room and in the Terrace Suite (on the 8th Floor). Whilst both my girlfriend and I really enjoyed the design and attention to detail in the rooms (such as having Ferrero Rocher hand-delivered to our rooms each day), it was the friendliness of the staff that really made the difference. They were always willing to do research for us if we wanted to do something or other, help us get around, provide suggestions, remembered our food preferences and allergies at breakfast, etc... . If you can stretch it a bit you should get the Terrace Suite which is simply the ONLY way to relax after a hard-day's walking about town.

Which brings me to the only downside of the hotel, namely its location. The area itself (Palermo Hollywood) is great, and has quite a few lovely little restaurants where one can eat, bars to drink etc..., but if you are in BA for the first time and want to walk around Recoleta, Plaza de mayo, Puerto Madero etc... you are a bit far out. Taxis from the hotel to any of the major sights is going to run you around 40ARS each way (about US$9). There is a subway ("subte") nearby which you can take (and we did, but only during the day time). Honestly though, this was only a minor inconvenience, but you should bear it in mind when budgeting time and/or money.

Hotel is stylish and well-appointed, staff very helpful. Rooms comfortable and quiet. In-room fridge and safe. Good bathrooms. But, as tourists, the location just wasn't great. A very long walk (or a taxi ride back and forth everyday) into the parts of the city where most attractions are. The area around the hotel is still a bit seedy although I can see how it would be attractive to a younger clientele as there are many restaurants and bars around. We were there over a holiday so the neighborhood seemed quite deserted. If you don't mind taking taxi's everywhere, this would be an OK choice. For the older tourist however, I think there are better places to stay.

After spending our first 3 nights in Buenos Aires at a large chain hotel with uncomfortable beds, we decided we needed a good night's sleep and booked our last two nights in the city at the Fierro Hotel. We stumbled on a gem. This small boutique hotel is around the corner from a number of top-rated restaurants, and an easy commute to trendy shops. It offers a small garden in the back of the hotel's excellent restaurant, as well as an amazing view (and relaxing dip) from it's rooftop deck and jacuzzi pool on the 7th floor. Our room was quiet and well-appointed (small balcony, roomy interior, a generous collection of towels and a towel heater in the bathroom, Nespresso machine for in-room espresso, iPod plug-in stereo to play your own tunes, huge, comfortable bed for us and large sofa bed for our 11-yr-old daughter.)

All that aside, what made our stay at Fierro a stand-out experience was the service. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by one of the managers. The front desk staff was friendly, fluent in English, and--in a couple of cases--went above and beyond in terms of accommodating us and helping out with a couple of glitches unrelated to the hotel.

I highly recommend a stay here when you're in Buenos Aires.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first level have a deck on which you can sit out. Other rooms have a tiny balcony. Room...

We were on the 7th floor next to the pool, which was handy. It felt like our own pool, as it was quite quiet. Very helpful reception/concierge staff. Always ready to explain where to go to eat etc and how to get there. Palermo is a great district - lots of places to eat, it felt safe to wonder around at night and about £8 taxi into central Bueos Aires. Great breakfasts. One young male waiter (sorry I cant remember his name) smiled all the time and nothing was too much trouble and is miles better than the sullen female waitress. Our room was large and very well serviced. Would definitely recommend Le Fierro and would stay there as first choice.
